This time of year, many kids go to summer camp to engage in activities that mostly ends up being a lot of sunburn, athlete's foot, 60's-70's art and esoteric chants. What if instead camps concentrated on vocational skills starting at age 5? While you could call Chick-fil-A Restaurants Camp a "labor camp," it is more like child labor-in-training. Groom your kids to be workers among workers with fundamentals taught by professionals: Dining room hosting & customer service skills How to take an order How to bag an order And to make it fun making your own Ice Dream cone or cup! Plus, comes with a kids meal, T-shirt, name tag and snack and consists of various activities like spending time with the Chick-fil-A Cow. Happy Valentine's Day from the IMPLAN team! ❤️ To mark this special day, we're sharing some fun facts about the economic impacts behind our favorite sweet treats: 🍫 Candy manufacturing employs almost 70K people in the United States with an annual output of $31B. Via analysis in IMPLAN, this contributes to a total employment of 302K people and an output of $94B annually through supply chain and household spending. 🍫 Pennsylvania has 5 of the top 10 counties in terms of employment in chocolate candy manufacturing. Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the home of Hershey’s, has the largest percentage of employment in the candy manufacturing industries in the United States. 🍫 Since 2001, there has been a major shift in the type of sugar used in chocolate production from cane sugar to beet sugar. This created losses for sugar cane in Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Texas, while sugar beet production increased in Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, and Michigan.

Don't press play if you don't want to cry.... This is a beautiful film. An amazing representation of fatherhood, the ups and downs, trials and tribulations; the unspoken bond between a father and son. All captured in a touch over 2 minutes. Using the Nick Mulvey track is a masterstroke. It's great to see the positive representation of fatherhood captured so authentically, and acknowledgment that families today can have different parenting and working structures...but more importantly showing the role that many Dads want to, and do, play in their children's lives, with a nod to equal parenting and all the benefits that brings. Now this was created to shift porridge, and given that it's a healthy breakfast option I hope they sell cuploads.... but it did make me reflect on my work as the founder of the Parents Promise that we are given many (far too many) stories of separated parents (usually dads) who get erased by the second scene. In this ad the parents aren't separated - they're showing how equal parenting works - and that giving permission to a child to love and bond with both parents (over porridge) should be the norm, not something only some children are allowed. For a lot of separated dads they simply aren't allowed to be the porridge parent that their child needs. So, as well as selling breakfast oats if this changes just one separated family dynamic, in my book it's money well spent by Quakers. Everyone remembered the Nilla Wafers and taco nights. Had the honor of attending a celebration of life for a 99- and 103-year-old couple who passed within a year of one another.  As I didn’t know the couple well, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the service or to be as deeply moved as I was by the stories that were shared. I was struck by how much of my time I spend thinking about things that won’t make much of a difference in the impact I make during my short time here. As I think about the legacy I leave, I will look to Marg and Lloyd for the example they set. My takeaways: • What their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren remembered most was their love, the way they lived their lives, and how they treated others.   • Memories were mostly about quality time spent with family (often over tacos and Nilla wafers). Traditions matter. • What they said mattered much less than what they did. How does this relate to my approach to work and life? • The relationships I build along the way are worth far more than the title or the paycheck.  • The traditions we create don’t have to be Instaworthy, they just have to be real. • The moments matter. Between coworkers, friends and families.  Take the time, make the connections. Everyone wins.

I had to add nutrition education to our summer program some how 😀. How can a Nutritionist with a PhD be organizing a summer program without a spice of nutrition education? Many parents reach out to me with questions on how to get their kids to eat our local meals and reduce their reliance on junk food. One of the best ways to achieve this is for the kids to know the nutrients these foods contain and how it will help them remain healthy, active and strong.
