I have worked in the Claims/Risk space for over 15 years. Throughout my time as Adjuster, Operations Manager and Multi-National Risk Director, I have worked with dozens of companies that service claims programs. Some have been local and others with a national reach, but ultimately, I was extremely conscious of their reputation, results, reporting as well as communication. If a company is providing a cookie cutter or "box" service then they fall into the Vendor category. It's all about the $ale for them. What is most important is that you use a company (large or small) that is dedicated to engaging with you to: -roundtable cases -discuss your pain points precise industry concerns -understand your program trends and needs specific to your company They should provide: -the services outlined during the onboarding discussion -have a direct contact for referrals/questions/updates -give quarterly stewardship reports (and meetings if you desire) -be transparent about where your fees are going -report what types of results are being obtained As I have transitioned into a new career path, I still believe that these things are important for every program. ADJUSTERS - Don't get Blindsided! Is your ADJUSTER License "ACTIVE" ??... It was perfect timing, when the candidate received my call. I was presenting a "Sr. Claims Adjuster" role, just days after this person had been informed of department layoffs. Their last day was less than 2 weeks away, but I was able to bring some good news in an otherwise stressful time. The position I presented offered an increase in compensation, and was fully remote. The hiring team was thorough in their interview process, and to be selected as the lead candidate, for the role, was a compliment to this ADJUSTER's experience. Unfortunately, when it was time to verify the candidate's claims adjuster license, as "ACTIVE" status, we realized there was a problem. Their soon-to-be prior employer had not processed their completed CE's, and fees, for their license renewal. ***It was now EXPIRED, and beyond 90 days*** We worked with the candidate, and our client, to ensure open lines of communication during each step of the license renewal process. This candidate showed incredible perseverance and tenacity in achieving renewal to ACTIVE status for their license, but in the end the urgency to fill the role took precedence and the opportunity went to the backup candidate. Interesting column on the P&C insurance industry's "underwriting shortage"... I highly recommend anyone interested in an underwriting post (or currently doing so) to focus on a specialization in the P&C world. There's tremendous career upside in management liability, cyber, inland marine, professional liability, etc.

With so much evolution in the P&C space these days, the metamorphosis of the role of claim adjustor from a paper-bound process to a digital-first approach is not just remarkable; it's revolutionizing how we view talent and skillsets in our sector. Gone are the days of claims folders and queues. Today’s claims adjustors are digital navigators, data analysts, and, most importantly, empathetic communicators. They are central to not only managing claim resolutions but also enhancing customer experiences and contributing significantly to risk management and business development. What does this mean for P&C recruiting? 🤔 We're not just looking for claims professionals; we're seeking multifaceted individuals who can analyze complex data, engage empathetically with clients, and navigate the digital landscape with ease. Emotional intelligence, technological savviness, and analytical prowess are the new gold standards. As leaders, our challenge is to identify and nurture this talent.
