🌟 Community at the Heart: Why Giving Back Matters to Us 🌟 🤝 At Gingras, Thomsen & Wachs, our commitment extends beyond the courtroom – it's deeply rooted in the communities we serve. We believe that a strong community is the foundation of a just society, and giving back is not just our responsibility, it's our passion. 🌱 Every community we're a part of is vital to us. Whether it's Eau Claire, Madison, Milwaukee, or Waukesha, we see the strength, resilience, and spirit in each place. We're more than just legal advocates; we're neighbors, friends, and partners in building a better future for all. 💕 Giving back is our way of saying thank you. It's about supporting local initiatives, engaging in community events, and helping those in need. We don't just practice law here; we live here, we care here, and we make a difference here. 💡 Why do we give back? Because our communities are the very backbone of our practice. They inspire us, motivate us, and remind us of the impact we can make. At GTW, we're dedicated to not just representing the community but being an active, contributing part of it. 🌈 Together, we can create stronger, more just communities. #CommunityFirst #GTWGivesBack #HeartOfTheCommunity

I was so excited to watch this project come together, from early concepts and strategy to those first design mockups and all the way through to development and deployment. It was a wonderful project and I love the end result. Congrats to Stef Jones, Heather Schneider, Tayo, Joshua, Mike, and the entire SCAN team. Here are a few behind-the-scenes highlights I caught from the sidelines while watching this project come together: 1) We used Octopus.do for rapid and visual sitemap generation. It helped visualize rough page layouts, which helped communicate those ideas with the project's lead designer. 2) This is the second project we have used Storybook on, and it made QA and handling the growing number of layout permutations feel manageable rather than ballooning technical debt. 3) We continue to push image attribution on as many photos as possible. This is an extra bit of work but makes the site feel alive, rich with meta details, and does right by both the photographers, artists, and the subjects. We've been using tippy.js for this and might move to the author's new library, floating-ui.js, in the future. 4) We used GigaPixel by TopazLabs to upscale one of the main hero images. It does a beautiful job of adding super-resolution detail without introducing artifacts or detracting from the original's look and feel. It's a one-time purchase, and we'll definitely be using it in the future. 5) Utility-based CSS frameworks seem to have been a win with the developers; maybe I was the lone skeptic. They also make content modular across a single project and even potentially between different client projects. This is particularly of interest as we lean heavily into WordPress Gutenberg blocks. Combined with Storybook, it could also be a winning strategy.

We cannot understate the importance of the YES Shelter for Youth and Families. It keeps some of our most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens off the streets and help them get the counselling or skills they need for a self-sufficient and healthier life than what they left. So when YES says they need help, we're going to put out the call. There are three ways you can volunteer your time and talent, freeing up the shelter employees to help the clients. First, there is the maintenance crew. This is for someone with all-around handyperson skills who can donate a few hours a week, between 9-4, to keep the shelter itself and its satellite houses in good repair. Perfect for a retiree or someone between jobs. The next is a need for gardeners. Keeping the shelter grounds looking tidy and welcoming is important. You (and a friend or two) will be provided the gear necessary, but please bring your own sturdy footwear. It's a morning job during the week. The third is for general shelter crew. Can we give a description of this opportunity? Not really, as it changes every shift. Sometimes you'll be helping sort donations. Other times, you'll be fixing up a new resident's room, making sure the basics are there. It depends entirely on the day's needs. All of these positions require a Vulnerable Sector Check (you know you keep and reuse these, right?) and a separate application form. They are looking for people who are mature, non-judgemental, and able to respect boundaries and confidentiality. If you want do do something to help keep kids and families off the streets (or living in a car or a tent), this is your opportunity. You'll find the agency overview and the links to the positions here: https://buff.ly/3YBnBvK Be part of the change that a young person needs for a better life for themselves. #Homelessness #AreYouHandy #CommunityBetterment #HousingIsARight Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce Peterborough County

We actually really need your help. Things are pretty grim out there, we are seeing it every day, and many of our fellow Victorians are doing it pretty tough. So we’d love to brighten Christmas for a few of them, but we can’t do it without you. How can you help? We’re looking for five special organisations to help us fund the purchase, delivery – and packing! – of thousands of food hampers this Christmas. By supporting us as a Christmas Hamper Helper, your organisation will provide more than 37,000 meals to Victorian families in need at Christmas-time. 🎄 When is this happening? Your team will pack hampers for one day in our Yarraville warehouse, between Monday 27 Nov - Friday 1 Dec. 🎄 What else do you need to know? This opportunity is limited to five organisations, so if your team is made up of the elves we’re looking for (and has a knack for packing), reach out to our Partnerships team by October 31, 2023. corporatepartnerships@foodbankvictoria.org.au #foodbank #corporatevolunteering #volunteer
