The Serendipitous Side of Success: My Career’s Unexpected Twists 🌟 My career has been a testament to the fact that hard work and meticulous planning are only part of the success equation. The other, often overlooked, part is serendipity. After diving into an HBR article on the role of luck in our careers, I’ve been mulling over the ‘fortunate accidents’ that have nudged my professional journey in exciting directions. Here’s how I’ve seen ‘luck’ play out in my career: The Power of Personal Connections: Sometimes, opportunities come from unexpected places. My current role at Roehl Transportation is a prime example. It came about thanks to a conversation my dad had with the owner. This experience has shown me how personal connections can lead to unexpected opportunities. Welcoming Change with Open Arms: I’ve worn many hats - from a Kwik Trip employee to a digital marketing intern - and each switch brought its own set of lessons and opportunities. It’s like every new role was a key unlocking a door to the next adventure. Sharpening Skills That Travel Well: I’ve honed abilities that are universal currency in the job market. This versatility has been my career’s Swiss Army knife, equipping me for roles I hadn’t even envisioned. Following My Gut: The best chances are often hidden, waiting to be discovered. When I took the internship at Floortapestore.com - the only gig available at the time - little did I know it would be a game-changer. I’ve come to realize that ‘being lucky’ isn’t just about being in the right place at the right time. It’s about being open-minded and prepared when opportunity knocks. What about you? Have you ever stumbled upon an opportunity that felt like a stroke of luck? How do you invite serendipity into your career? #CareerLuck #OpenMindedness #CareerJourney #Networking #SkillBuilding #uwspMBA #BUS703 #SENTRYSCHOOL Lyna Matesi

How do you keep tabs on your team's workload and make yourself useful when needed? No matter if you are seasoned (as I like to call us vintage) or if you are just getting started with your business, there are lessons to be learned everyday. Sometimes it is obvious and at times you need to create your own DOE opportunities. This week was full of lessons for me. For example, I learned that if you ask, Is there anything that I can help with today? you should be ready to do ANYTHING. My team needed some help prebuilding master cartons and I don't know how many CEO's would jump at this opportunity, but for me what a great task to do some time studies. If you know anything about me, the goal is always to be faster: -First stack of 25 master cartons took 5 minutes. I was not well organized and double handled the cases. -Second stack of 25 took 4 minutes. I organized my work area to be efficiently retrieve, assemble, tape, and stack the boxes. -Third stack took 3.75 minutes (averaged 9 seconds per master carton!) The lesson here is, get organized before you tackle a task and it will save you time and money!!!

Last week I sat down with Thomas Hartmann from Product Masterclass to talk about career management and how to apply all our favourite product frameworks to your own career, one of my favourite topics 🙌🏽 Here are 3 main takeaways (spoiler alert!) 1️⃣- ⭐️ Intuition is always a good place to start There's a popular belief that intuition is not rational, but it is, it's 100% based on your life experience just as much as "rational decision making", it's just not happening in the same part of your brain 🧠 2️⃣ - 👯 Work on your network all year long, not just when you need it A network is like a garden, you need to work all the time, not just when you want to eat the fruits. However, make sure your networking strategy is authentic to you, it doesnt have to be transactional, it can be as simple as an e-coffee and meeting someone new :) 3️⃣ - ✨ Storytelling is everything You can tell any story, as long as you own it and you've prepared that conversation. Whether it's presenting your product strat to your stakeholders or talking about your previous experiences in a job interview, how you narrate your story is as important as the content of your presentation, that's how you'll convey confidence. Big up to Shannon V. for connecting us ! https://lnkd.in/eJjYdDD5

We’ve been through a week and a half of opening College Hunks of Louisville and it has been going well! I wanted to share some pre-opening and first week pains. 🥶 Why? I am here to share the realities of small business operations - the roses and the thorns! So future operators and owners can make the best choice for themselves. Some of the pains: 1. Received over 200 applications for our crew positions, were only able to hire 12, and train 6 (I thought the restaurant industry had labor challenges - this industry is on another level) 👀 2. Received our movers license a day before calendar launch - had to go back and forth with the gov due to confusing requirements 🏫 3. Realized that we are opening at a time when the moving industry has had a historically low amount of leads but high competition 📉 4. Became immobile during the first week of opening due to a disc bulge (not from moving a client haha) 🩻 5. Realized that we have a few loose screws in the crew training process and the client sales process ⚙️ And so much more… But we are overcoming them all with a pinch of stress, a solution-oriented mindset, and a ton of fun. A majority of the credit goes to Derrick Wiest. The next post will be all about the lessons learned while overcoming failure points. Just getting started 😤

Career breaks are pretty common and often result in a change of perspective, direction and motivation. Sharing this through a cv is tough, so Stevie ditches these in favour of profiles to share the narrative around your next career step 🧡
No matter the reason for your career break, getting a foot back in the door is a challenge. A new perspective, priorities and direction often come with it so Stevie offers the chance to share your story 🧡 Stevie knows the power of a great introduction, so we keep it simple and do just that.
