Head of Inclusion UK for Clifford Chance | Former BBC Creative Diversity Lead | Inspirational d&i Leaders List 2024 | Global Diversity List's Head of Diversity 2023, Champion 2021, Professional 2020 | Journalist
“You may know what you think you want but the universe may have a funny way of showing you another way.” - David Saleh David was sharing his experiences at Clifford Chance’s recent inclusion dining experience for our new trainee cohort. His point was that we need to embrace change and opportunities as they present themselves - to not be wedded to one vision of our future. It’s something that I’m sure would resonate with many. I know that in my 20s I wouldn’t have expected to be the Head of Inclusion at a global law firm! My career trajectory has changed direction many times - from studying law to print journalist to broadcast content-maker to becoming a dedicated inclusion specialist. At each change moment, an opportunity presented itself. Often a mentor (frequently my mum, dad or husband) saying “why can’t you?” A bit of further soul searching, a list of pros and cons plus a SWOT of my life would lead to me taking the plunge. David’s advice is, of course, applicable to our trainees as they work out what area of law they would like to specialise into but it equally applies to us all. So let’s embrace change (after some careful consideration)! And of course to Laura-Ann Royal, Megan Rosendale, Mia Pollock, Ellis Johnstone and Helen Martin for organising such a memorable moment for us. None of it ever possible without Chris Fawcett FRSA and Leticia Acheampong from the inclusion team. They’re sitting under ornate stained glass windows with wooden panelling behind them. #Diversity #Inclusion #LivedExperience #RepresentationMatters #Careers #CultureChange #InclusiveCulture #CareerDevelopment #WhereBrightMindsMeet

I Empower International Students to have their Stories Heard and Success Celebrated🎓✨ Financial Analysis Specialist || Community Leader.
A staggering 90% of employers believe black individuals have fewer opportunities. Events like these showcase a different narrative. There's a powerful movement in place in embracing diversity and equity. I attended an enlightening event organized by the ACEN (African Caribbean Education Network) at PwC UK yesterday. The focus was on bridging the gap between access and opportunities, challenging the idea that race should limit career heights. Another remarkable moment was hearing Mageshan's journey, from humble beginnings to becoming a senior manager in audit. His story was proof that limits only exist in the mind. Engaging conversations with Aisha Sanusi and Amber W. added depth to the experience. It strengthened the message that race should never be a barrier to achieving greatness. Thank you ACENetwork, PwC UK, and all involved for the impactful work you do! I've learnt the importance of attending and exposing yourself to such events. They open doors and propel you toward your goals.🤝🏾✨ Do you plan to attend impactful and strategic events this year?😌 If you'll also love to attend events like these, I've got the links in the comment section!🫶🏽 #diversityandinclusion #blossokingbeyondborders

As CEO at Groundswell (fka OC Human Relations), I help leaders transform organizations, businesses, and schools to be more equitable and human centered.
The news may be making you wonder if DEI is “done for.” From the Supreme Court limiting affirmative action in schools … to the legal case against the Fearless Fund, stories about the rollback of DEI efforts have been front page news. This may sound cynical … but I know that DEI work isn’t going away. If nothing else, it’s sticking around because it drives company revenue. According to research by McKinsey & Company, the most diverse companies are more likely to outperform less diverse peers on profitability. However, there’s still a lot of stigma and cultural misunderstanding about this work, even from executives who believe in it. If you’re curious about how to create a great place for people to do great work at your company and want to attend our Groundswell Summit – but aren’t sure how to get your boss to sign off – here’s a note you can send them: “I’d like to attend the Groundswell Summit on Sep. 20th to help us build an even stronger company culture and create belonging at work. I want to learn how to make conflict work for us, turning those inevitable uncomfortable moments into opportunities to strengthen bonds between our people. I also want to reduce risk and protect our team by addressing situations where employees display bias or prejudice, so I can support folx effectively. This work is complex - now more than ever. So, I’d like to connect with peers navigating these same issues so we can share strategies and stay connected even after the summit." You can learn more about it here: https://lnkd.in/g6CbsAHd … what do you think?” #Equity #Belonging #OrangeCounty #DEIB #JEDI

🌟 What a Week! 🌟 From meetings to strategic planning, our week was a whirlwind of excitement and growth! 🚀 🤝 Beginning strong with strategic meetings: Colin delved into discussions with Jeanette Martin, while Lucy had a productive conversation with Andrea Cloughley. But that wasn't all! Together, Colin and Lucy had a long overdue catch-up with the incredible Douglas Marshall. 💼 Colin's midweek highlight? Delivering training to a dynamic Tech Company, empowering them with crucial skills and delivering on their Employee Wellbeing Strategy. Meanwhile, Lucy lent her expertise to Rob Griffiths, assisting in a critical recruitment seminar at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce. 📚 Then came our cherished Book Club, where minds met and ideas flowed. Engaging discussions and shared passions made for a memorable evening! 👩💼 As the week drew to a close, Lucy was on-site with a valued customer, offering invaluable support for their people strategy and commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Meanwhile, Colin immersed himself in networking with SVBG, forging connections and exploring opportunities. ✨ Wrapping up with a flourish, Lucy delved into BNI Achievers Black Country. A lot of the positive actions we take from business are driven by #EngagementSurveys and planning based on data and not guesswork. If you'd be interested in learning more email colin@humaneverything.co.uk and we'll have a productive conversation with you. #HumanEverything
