This year’s Refugee Week theme, ‘Finding Freedom’ – with a focus on family – encapsulates the profound journey of resilience, strength and unity that defines the refugee experience. The Salvation Army supports refugees upon arrival in Australia through material aid via our Doorways service, and many of our Salvo locations offer programs to help build life skills or facilitate social/spiritual connections. In the coming weeks, The Salvation Army’s New Beginnings Project (NBP) will launch. It is a community sponsorship program for refugees, also known as the Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Pilot (CRISP). This is a new refugee sponsorship program in Australia where community members can sponsor and welcome families who have been recognised by UNHCR to settle in Australia. #TheSalvationArmy #BelieveInGood #WorldRefugeeWeek

Refugee Week 2024 has kicked off this week. It is Australia’s peak annual activity to promote awareness of refugees, the issues they face and the contributions refugees are making to the Australian society. This year's theme "Finding Freedom: Family" comes as at a time when forced displacement has soared drastically over the last few years around the world. The UNHCR states over 120 million people have been forcibly displaced, out of which 43 million are refugees. Australia as one of the world's active refugee host nations has housed thousands of refugees over the last few years that come from countries around the world and now call Australia home. It is important that we reflect on the challenges refugees face in Australia and around the world while cherishing the important contributions they make to the stable growth of the Australian communities and economy. Refugees are individuals who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or disaster. They face immense challenges, including the loss of their homes, communities, and often their families. As we strive to build a more inclusive and compassionate world, it is crucial to address the needs of refugees, providing them with safety, support, and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Today, I would like to highlight Refugee Story Project. These non-profit aims to share the powerful stories of refugees from around the world, shedding light on their experiences, struggles, and triumphs. By amplifying their voices, we hope to foster understanding, empathy, and action within our communities. Join us in supporting refugees by: - Listening to and sharing their stories - Supporting community efforts to welcome and integrate refugees - Contributing to organizations dedicated to refugee aid and resettlement Together, we can make a difference and help refugees find hope and a new beginning. #Refugees #Inclusion #Compassion #RefugeeStoryProject #HumanRights #Advocacy
