👉🏼What the story…..with this terribly video quality? It’s probably what your thinking, don’t worry we we’re too. But it’s actually clips from our first ever party as H&G Creations (hunt & gather at the time) Just when you think 10 years wasn’t that long ago, you see images and videos from then and you realise it actually was a while ago. Let’s set the scene the for everyone, it’s 2014, the country is recovering from a financial crisis, a-lot of pals have emigrated, and there’s not many opportunities going. But by golly we we’re not gunna let that stop us from making art and having good time. We took inspiration from Nuit Blanche late night festival that would happen every year in Paris. And we created our own Nuit Blanche in an old office of public work formerly knows as IMOCA (irish museum of contemporary art) a giant white walled warehouse space the perfect canvas. We created a night market, art exhibition, art classes, dance party and big kids playground for everyone till the wee hours in the morning. It was so popular people lined up around the block to get in and even were climbing the walls to get in. And there you have it H&G was born. Our vision was always to being people joy, bring art to people in unusual spaces, and expose new culture to those who may never have experienced culture before. The team and I were privileged to be at a Practice Talk Populous held in their Sydney office. I was impressed to learn that they designed the largest spherical building in the world. I'm beyond excited to see The Sphere in Las Vegas in person next month; hopefully I can get in there and really check it out. Niche business models exist. The 3rd observation from this weekend was about the business models at play within art. I see two extremes; the high street galleries and the public art galleries. The first have more in common with business investors than art itself. They’re mostly risk-averse, presenting a scale-up opportunity for artists who have already proven themselves, especially celebrity artists (whether they’re originally known for their wall art or not). This is aligned to what I’ve seen of the investment approach in the UK. It’s neither good nor bad, but is constrained and presents restrictions on evaluations. The second is a little more obscure to me. From what I can see, once again it’s relatively risk-averse, but the celebrity status preferred by high street galleries is swapped in favour of validation by art critics and curators. It’s still a case of having to have proved interest before being considered for display. In between, there are all sorts of business models, eg vanity publishing (often pay-to-play), local galleries, competitions (again, often pay-to-play), exhibitions (majority of which are pay-to-play) and so on. What they all have in common is the risk-averse nature, whether that’s requiring proof of ability to sell before engaging or pushing the cost onto the artist through demanding funding before engaging. My thesis, "Experiential Advertising: The Immersive Evolution of Marketing," further explores this shift, delving into the importance of flagship stores and how design impacts advertising. While this video focuses on the shift in museums instead of retail, it still communicates users’ changing needs and perceptions. Inspired by Dr. Park's insights, I examined how human-centered design principles are crucial in creating compelling consumer journeys within these spaces. These stores now serve as more than mere shopping destinations; they've become storytelling platforms where brands engage consumers in unique narratives. So, the next time you're drawn to a flagship store, remember, it's not just about the products—it's about the entire experience, worthy of sharing and perhaps even sparking some envy on social media.

Think outside the box -- or your traditional brick and mortar -- and take your favorite retail items to a farmer's market, art gallery, concert space, or community event to expand clientelle.
