The Invisible Battleground: Mental Warfare in Young Minds Young people today face a unique set of challenges that can feel like a constant mental battle. From academic pressures and social anxieties to the ever-present and increasingly pervasive influence of social media, the weight of expectation and comparison can be overwhelming. This mental warfare can manifest in feelings of isolation, depression, antisocial behaviour and anxiety, impacting their overall well-being and ability to thrive. One potential solution lies in the creation of robust mental wellness programs within schools. These programs should move beyond traditional lectures and embrace an activity-based approach. Techniques reading, #Bibliotherapy, writing, and other forms of creative expression can equip students with tools to manage stress and navigate difficult emotions. Additionally, these programs should be free from bias, fostering a safe space for open discussions about mental health regardless of background or identity. By prioritizing mental well-being and providing practical tools for young people, schools can empower them to navigate the complexities of modern life and emerge stronger. These are areas where several organizations, such as mhapy (Mental Health Accountability Project) are pioneering action. From your own corner of the globe, you can do something, even if the spotlight never shines on you. The world need it now. More than ever before. Why? There's a war going on...

Far too many young people are struggling with their mental health and are unable to get the support they need. Due to factors beyond their control, many of the students CISLA serves are at a higher risk for mental health difficulties. CISLA is deeply concerned about students' mental health, and we work hard to address this issue through student interactions, our curriculum, and advocacy efforts. Programs like our Girl’s Empowerment Program and targeted student groups provide the framework for our students to address mental health challenges in a safe environment among their peers. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we uplift our work in supporting youth mental health and creating a world where young people thrive. Chief Executive Officer @ The Jed Foundation | Youth Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. Views expressed are mine.
It's essential to equip teens and young adults with the necessary skills and support to protect emotional health and reduce suicide risks. Today’s publication of the second annual Thriving College Student Index report–developed by the College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition in partnership with the Hi, How Are You Foundation, and support from The Jed Foundation (JED)–identified improved emotional well-being and increased feelings of happiness and gratitude for college students when compared to last year. While there is still more work to be done to ensure all college students can thrive emotionally and academically, this report reminds us that social connectedness and peer-to-peer support can help to decrease mental health concerns.
