How can we advance #HumanRights protection in the EU? Drawing from this year’s Fundamental Rights Report 2024 from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, check out our wide-ranging opinions and supporting evidence. These include: ✅Leave no-one behind: ensure that poverty and energy reduction measures, including social and housing assistance, reach disadvantaged groups. ✅Strengthen fundamental rights safeguards at borders: improve search and rescue practices to save lives at sea. Provide safer conditions for processing new arrivals, and establish independent rights monitoring at the EU’s external borders. ✅Protect civil society: monitor and record restrictions to civic space. Take action to protect human rights defenders and media freedom. Systematically call on civil society expertise, allowing meaningful time for effective consultation. ✅Take a firm stand against all forms of racism and related intolerance: acknowledge and counter systemic and deeply rooted racism and related intolerance in our societies. Continue to monitor and collect evidence-based data to feed into EU and national anti-racism and antisemitism laws and policies. Provide a safer online space for all and act against online hate.

I consider disinformation to be the greatest challenge our societies face today. The EU LGBTIQ Survey findings by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights revealed that gradual progress in law and society in Europe is confronted by rise of hate motivated violence and harassment, fuelled by online hatred and disinformation campaigns against LGBTIQ people. What the European Parliament and the Commission call FIMI (Foreign Interference and Manipulation of information) 2024 is an election year for about 70 democratic countries around the world. And our response to disinformation is critical. The EU has now new tools to confront it, suche as the Digital Services Act but Inevitably it starts with raising awareness of the public and making each one of us able to recognize and fight it as it threatens our values, our world and our future. Watch some very interesting and explanatory videos by the European Parliament. https://lnkd.in/dUA5wq_9

#Policy 💬 🔴 The #DefenceofDemocracy Directive on foreign interference in its current form does not address internal threats to #democracy. How should this be done? ✅ EPD and a group of NGOs suggest substituting this with a general transparency register for all entities to prevent discriminatory treatment between foreign-funded entities and those that are not.
