Ever heard the term "qualified donee"? I break it down in my latest #charitableadvice video! It's the envelope term from Canada’s Income Tax Act for entities that can issue tax receipts to donors and also receive gifts from existing charities. This is an important term when we talk about “charity” from a tax or legal perspective. So what’s included? For starters, every Canadian registered charity is a qualified donor—that's every single private or public foundation and charitable organization. What else? The municipality you live in (like City of Vancouver) is a qualified donee! Do you like sports? Well, many national sports associations, such as Hockey Canada, Canada Soccer or registered “Canadian Amateur Athletic Associations,” are qualified donees. What about journalism? Even media organizations like The Narwhal and La Presse are also qualified donees. So what? When it comes to knowing what kind of entities can be engaged to create change with tax-receipted charitable dollars, it’s not just charities; it’s all qualified donees. 🤯 Understanding these terms can make your giving more effective and impactful and open up more options for where you can direct your generosity. Charitable Impact can help you navigate creating change with any and all qualified donees. Check out the video for interesting insights! 🎥 #Charity #QualifiedDonee #GivingSimplified #Charitabledonations

Research from the Charity Commission shows that understanding where charity funds go and ensuring they fulfil their goals are crucial for building public trust. However, the Commission's research also shows trustees are "less sure about" making decisions based on personal views or recognising conflicts of interest. Liz Brownsell, Partner and Head of Charities at Birketts, explores this issue in an article in The Times: https://lnkd.in/ezxE9hUf #Charity #PublicTrust #Trustees #LegalInsight
