An inlaid table in Florentine pietra dura: a true masterpiece that alone would be enough to win me over! But the Christie's auction in Paris, 12 March, is certainly not limited to this. A skilful selection of #furniture, #decorative art and #paintings from the 16th century to the present day, design and even a #car, a 1937 Pontiac Motors de luxe six cabriolet that belonged to the Prince of Savoy (lot 191): an eclectic symphony of eras and styles that will tickle the fancy of any #collector.
Christie's intention is clear: to attract a large and varied group of enthusiasts, demonstrating how works from different eras can dialogue harmoniously within a house. In my opinion, this is a nice idea, which also winks at younger collectors, showing them how art and design are not necessarily confined into rigid categories, but can merge into a single, fascinating narrative.
How I would have loved to admire the staging of this suggestive auction live! An unmissable opportunity to get lost among unexpected treasures and be inspired by unusual combinations.
