What makes me proud as we approach our first anniversary at B. Partners? The incredible community of leaders, innovators, and change-makers we've built who are boldly building a better future. And we’re just getting started! 🚀 Ariana and I originally set out to "B." the change we wanted to see. We wanted B. Partners to be the place where: 🔮 Bold new ideas rooted in solid business growth strategy were fearlessly explored, therefore generating unprecedented returns 🔮 Collaboration, creativity and excellence were the norm--not ego or status quo 🔮 People with new/different perspectives (𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘴) felt supported to be their authentic selves rather than pressured into assimilation Sometimes at first, it felt like an impossible task. Now almost year in, I can attest to the fact that there ARE many folks out there who share these values. 🌟 They're leading top-tier organizations boldly into the future and assembling allstar teams to make it happen. 🌟 They're the undersung rockstars already leading internal divisions to new heights. 🌟 They're tomorrow's workforce full of energy, brilliant insights, new skills and passion to see the status quo change. It's incredible what can happen when you are true to yourself, especially when that's not the "norm". 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲. Here's to the future! 🥂

Last week wrapped up our annual Meeting of The Minds here at The Mullings Group. I look forward to this time each year because we have everyone from our global offices fly in to collaborate, strategize, and to have fun (roaring 20s style). My top five lessons that I'm taking away from this time together are: 1. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. 2. Make competition irrelevant by creating uncontested market space. 3. Professional growth can be vertical or horizontal (either one is great). 4. Asking the stupid question is good, not asking it isn't. 5. Talking less and listening more is powerful. I'm looking forward to what these next 12 months will bring!

Summer of transformation (1/2) 🌳 Guess who can now sing "and when I'm back in Chicago" and actually mean it ;) I love LA, but spending ten days in a city that feels so "city" made me feel alive! This May, I was selected to join a distinguished cohort of students from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism for the Chicago Maymester, an immersive professional experience in the Windy City. From speed walking in the Loop and morning lobby debriefs to family-style pizza and group manifestations, this trip ranged from stimulating to wholesome. What kind of strategist would I be if I didn't summarize the key learnings? 🔑 How to learn multi-dimensionally: Exploring a breadth of industries including music, sports, news, radio, and PR in a short span can seem overwhelming. We often gravitate towards our core interests and limit our attention elsewhere. I made a conscious effort to give equal attention to every area, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much each one enriched my perspective on my core passions of advertising and entertainment. 🔑 How to ask good questions: I am certain the formula for good questions is being prepared with context + active listening + predicting white spaces that everyone might benefit from + my own POV + succinct articulation + confidence! 🔑 How to take up space: Imagine speed-dating, but instead, you're visiting companies, learning about them, listening, and networking! This experience pushed me to make myself be seen and heard in professional settings and realize that space isn't scarce. There is enough room for my colleagues and me to gain value! I'm grateful to the teams at all our company visits at FCB Chicago, Golin, Weber Shandwick, NewsNation, Grubhub, Wasserman, Big Ten Network, Kevin Pang, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, Octagon, Flowers Communications Group, McDonald's, WBEZ Chicago and the Obama Foundation for creating such enriching learning interactions. A big thank you to Fred Cook, Melanie Scherenzel-Cherry, Mike Ploszek, and Katy Kelly for organizing a wealth of insightful company visits. Halfway through my 4th week at Lattice and here's one piece of advice I received this week that is breaking my brain (in a good way). 👾 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 👾 More often than not, I've been hired under the premise that change was necessary. But, when I walked in as the change agent I was hired to be, I've been met with extreme resistance from the very people who hired me. But today, my boss / partner in pipeline, Jessica Smith, gave me the feedback to: ➡️ Take up more space ➡️ Own my expertise more ➡️ Be the person who is going to stir change ...and the feedback hit me in the best way possible. It's not often a boss goes out of their way to invite their employees to take up more space. And also, it's one of the most impactful a manager / leader can do - to encourage and empower their people to take up more space, be better and also create an encouraging environment for people to explore their potential more. Lesson being learned is this -- to be more, you have to work for and alongside people who want to see you be more! #lifeatlattice #newjob

✨ New Owner Highlight: Molly Georgia, Chief Operating Officer ❤️ What I love about DPG: Nothing beats getting to work with a smart, savvy, caring, and driven group of young people. "Always Challenge the Old Ways" is a core belief for us and keeps me inspired everyday to find inefficiencies and seek out opportunities in everything from our processes to our products and our people. Always having something new to work on with our every evolving company makes the job so interesting and can't wait to see what the next few years of ownership bring us! 🚀 What I’m most excited for about DPG: Getting to have a front row seat to building a business, especially one that intersects so many different industries, from marketing, digital, political, and more. Some highlights would be bringing on new staff and integrating them into our culture and helping them grow over time, developing more strategic ways of operating internally, and expanding our partnerships with others in the space through technology and products. It's an exciting time for us and eager to keep things moving.

Continuing with Thankful Thursdays! As I reflect on my career, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible leadership Carl Poteete. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable experiences and lessons I gained while working under his leadership. Even thou he was 2 levels above me, his open-door policy made it easy for us to approach him with ideas and concerns, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration. The best part of working for Carl Poteete was the annual team meetings. I particularly enjoyed the personality tests he conducted and led himself, making the whole meeting insightful. These sessions were instrumental in developing our team. We learned about our strengths as well as areas for improvement. In the end, bringing the team closer together. I wish Carl the best and hope his exemplary leadership and positive influence have affected many more in the last 10 years. Call for Action: No matter your job title or position keep an open mind (open door of sorts), it not only makes for a great team vibe but also fosters innovation, enhances problem-solving, and builds stronger professional relationships

Drafting a punter in the fourth round? Unusual, yes, but the Chicago Bears made a strategic move last week. Selecting the top talent in any field, even one often overlooked, can redefine team dynamics. The best performers bring distinct advantages, impacting outcomes directly. This draft decision is a lesson in value, recognizing and capitalizing on it, irrespective of conventional wisdom. This approach isn't just for sports. Hiring or investing in top-tier talent in less obvious areas can propel a company forward. It’s about seeing beyond the norm and leveraging unique strengths for greater success.

Great group of supply chain leaders joined our Round Table yesterday. Waypost Advisors thanks SafeNet Consulting (now Eliassen Group) for hosting and to everyone for joining. Insights shared around the table included container delays and leadtimes driving up costs for shipping, especially from Asia. Risk in the FTL freight markets due to depressed pricing and over-capacity and a subject near and dear to our hearts at Waypost Advisors and Supply Chain Geeks everywhere like Emily LeVasseur, how important it is to document address and align your business processes whenever you are working on your ERP strategy.
