As India's population ages, the need to create supportive structures for healthy and productive aging is becoming increasingly urgent. Older adults often face cumulative disadvantages due to intersectional factors such as age, caste, socioeconomic status, employment, and education, which significantly affect their access to healthcare. In this JIBS Research Byte, we explore how multiple layers of disadvantage intersect to exacerbate healthcare disparities among older adults in India. Neglecting women's health innovations and access is costly, not just for women. According to the latest Closing Women's Health Gap report from World Economic Forum & McKinsey Health Institute: - Addressing the women’s health gap could potentially boost the global economy by at least $1 trillion annually by 2040. - Women spend 25% more of the lives in debilitating health. No geographic region or age group is unaffected. Recommended five-pronged action across multi-stakeholders: 1. Invest in women's centric research. 2. Systematically collect sex and gender specific research data. 3. Increase access to women-specific care in all areas from prevention to treatment. 4. Create incentives for investment in women's health innovation. 5. Implement policies supporting women's health. ProSeek Bio aims to contribute to better women's health through cancer screening tests, starting with ovarian cancer. Our mass spectrometry-based glycoform-specific biomarker platform is pathology lab-ready, allowing rapid implementation after machine learning algorithm development. We will soon be looking for passionate and skilled team members, advocates and networks. Reach out if interested! #biomarkers #cancerscreening #diagnostics #proteomics #massspec #ovariancancer #womenhealth https://lnkd.in/edNrCEqm

(UK 01.03.24) More than a billion people obese worldwide, research suggests - How does Australia compare internationally? Global estimates published in The Lancet reveal that over a billion people worldwide are living with obesity, with about 880 million adults and 159 million children affected. Highest rates are found in Tonga, American Samoa, and Nauru. Obesity increases the risk of serious health conditions like heart disease and diabetes. The report shows a significant increase in obesity rates among children and adults over the past few decades, while the proportion of underweight adults has declined. Urgent action is needed to address this crisis, including interventions in diet, physical activity, and healthcare. The study highlights the importance of government, community, and private sector cooperation to combat obesity and malnutrition. How does Australia compare internationally? According to OECD data from 2021, Australia ranks 9th out of 21 member countries in terms of the proportion of people aged 15 and over living with overweight or obesity, with a rate of 65%, exceeding the OECD average of 60%. When comparing obesity rates by gender, Australia has the 4th highest proportion of men living with obesity (32%) and the 9th highest proportion of women (29%) among OECD countries. https://lnkd.in/grduHerM https://lnkd.in/gn9bD3xB

🌠 Unlocking the Power of Women’s Health Research: A Missed Opportunity 🔍 Did you know that medical research has long favored men’s health, leaving women’s health issues in the shadows? 🚀 It’s time to change that narrative! 💪 👉 Key Takeaways: 🚺 Gender Bias Persists: For far too long, we’ve treated men and women as interchangeable subjects in medical research. But here’s the catch: diseases affecting women are often underfunded, leaving critical gaps in our understanding. 💵 Investment Pays Off: Even a slight increase in funding for women’s health research could yield staggering returns. 🚀 Let’s advocate for equity in research funding! Share this post and join the conversation. Together, we can bridge the gap and improve health outcomes for everyone. 🌎 - - - With the Pain Patterns project, the aim is not only to offer women more information about PCOS - The Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome and Endometriosis, but also to create a research space where we understand the difference between menstrual cramps and menstrual pain and use this for preventive diagnostic. - - - #WomenInScience #HealthEquity #ResearchMatters

Former Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan (2006-2010, 2022), SCO Secretary General (2019-21); Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Germany, Poland, Switzerland (1998-2003); BENELUX, EU & NATO (2004-06, 2013-17)
Reducing the women’s health gap improves lives and can potentially unlock a $ 1 trillion GDP opportunity annually by 2040, according to a new analysis from the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the McKinsey Health Institute. Together, they reveal the incredible avenues for creating meaningful global change. Historically, men have led and been the subject of the study of medicine and biology. Most animal models have been done on male specimens, which still prevails today. Questions around sex-based differences were rarely investigated or recorded, with the assumption – now known to be false – that there are few important differences in the functioning of organs and systems in men and women beyond reproduction. This has resulted in ~65% of interventions (which have sex-disaggregated research) being less effective for women than men https://lnkd.in/d6FqexVu

Dr. Megan Kennedy, PhD from Trinity College Dublin and researchers from St James Hospital are conducting a research survey to learn more about menstrual health, bleeding experiences and physical activity participation in women and people with the potential to menstruate/get a menstrual period. The survey is open to both people who have an inherited bleeding disorder and the general public who do not have a bleeding disorder. The survey should only take 15-20 minutes to complete. You can access the survey here 👉https://lnkd.in/gectYzJN Are there any benefits to me or others if I take part in the study? There are no direct benefits to you participating in this survey but the information you provide may benefit other women and people who can get periods, as it will be useful for informing health services about how periods and abnormal bleeding may relate to physical activity and quality of life. We hope this research will positively impact future healthcare for all women and people who can get periods.

In a recent publication in the Lancet Public Health journal, analysts have highlighted a striking reality: while women tend to outlive men, they also suffer from poorer health throughout their lifetimes. The study underscores the urgent need for measures to address this imbalance and improve the overall health of women globally. #GenderHealthDisparities #WomensHealth #MensHealth #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #GlobalHealth #HealthPolicy #GenderEquality #ResearchForChange

Women spend 25% more of their lives in debilitating health than men, highlighting the critical need to address the women's health gap. This gap is exacerbated by persistent underdiagnosis and insufficient research into female-specific conditions. Although strides toward gender parity have been made, there is still much to be done—particularly in advancing gender-sensitive research. By focusing on research that models diseases related to women, we can gain deeper insights into female biology and develop more effective treatments. This approach not only aims to reduce the burden of disease but also promotes greater health equity, potentially boosting the global economy by $1 trillion by 2040.
"It is also important to continue promoting gender-sensitive research, and ultimately, implement interventions that not only reduce the burden of disease but also achieve greater health equity." #FemTech #healthtech World Economic Forum https://lnkd.in/g_BeRFeG
