Our CEO, Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, M.V.O., MBA had the opportunity to highlight the #AstraCarta on a global stage today speaking at #UNCOPUOS in Vienna hosted by United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
In her remarks, she articulated the #AstraCarta vision and ambition for a default sustainable approach to #space activity, and the responsible use of space to improve sustainability on Earth:
"The Astra Carta is our private sector pledge to future generations – a promise that we will navigate the next frontier with wisdom, foresight, and responsibility."
Many thanks to the UK Department of Science, Technology and Innovation for the invitation and opportunity to participate.

At #DSEI2023, it was great hearing the panel discussion on the Astra Carta ambition chaired by AVM Paul Godfrey UK Space Command and quote PA Consulting's recent Space Breakfast roundtable report on 'Space saves lives and protects our planet' 🌏
He called out key areas within our report on where we can do more to power #SpaceSustainability including:
-Mitigating the environmental impact of commercial launches
-Striking the right balance between regulation and boosting our Space economy
-Improving public perception of Space and the benefits it can deliver
And finally but very importantly
-Fostering collaboration between industry, government and academia to solve some of our biggest space sustainability challenges.

Space-based solutions are paving the way for a faster green transition. But it's time to take it a step further and focus on the triple transition: green, digital, and society. To achieve this, we must find new partnership models that implement tailored solutions owned by users, ensuring their sustainability.
This is a short summary of the interesting discussion held today in #Paris at European Space Agency - ESA HQ, where I had the chance (and honor) to participate!
Let's work together to create a better future for everyone. #GreenTransition#DigitalTransition#SocietyTransition#PartnershipModels#SustainableSolutions#SpaceAsEnabler
The first day ends with the closing remarks by Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, European Commission Maroš Šefčovič:
"When it comes to the #EUSpace Ecosystem, it's important to discuss the challenges but also potential solutions: European space technology could be the main driver of sustainability and the Green Transition."
See you tomorrow!
#EuropeanSpaceConf
A sustainable space for a sustainable future. Not a wordplay. Rather the European Space Agency - ESA’s vision and strategic objective to guarantee that space based solutions will keep contributing to the sustainable developments of society.

This is what everybody dreamt of when they stepped into space club-DEVIKA D K and Surya Jayakumar, their excitement, saying repeatedly how distinguished they felt when they were at SHAR.
Space club was a winning phase...
Identifying agendas for the next week, even if we were out of content, we kept going by just being there for the meeting and hear something LIZY ABRAHAM would have to say and stay motivated.
The day Ajina S M asked me to be the coordinator, taking up the responsibilty, working on it, sharing meeting agendas for next one, making sure meeting minutes are shared in the group the day itself to make sure everybody got on the same page....... those were 'intellectually' busy days !
I remember going through an article on Solar flares, on one of my visits to the digital library at college, came to know it's an unmonitored area, and it is a great deal for astronauts out there with a peak intense X-ray hitting them very unexpectedly. The only problem I could see with the idea was, solar flares only occurs occasionally. Any way I decided to present it on one of the meetings, and soon we proceeded with checking the feasibility on developing a system to monitor the X-rays. After a handful of discussions, we understood developing an X-ray sensor that too with space-grade is lil out of budget and won't fit in with the resources we had and that's when LIZY ABRAHAM suggested, why don't we do a feasibility check on UV rays... and the rest is going to be history.
Along with handing over the baton, enlightened us on how to keep the club moving without getting distracted from academics.
1. Form final year project teams within the space club rather than going with friends, which we usually would have done, of course.
2. Take up the ideas we came up with for WESAT, and do research & feasibilty study on it, making it our final year project.
I would really like to share the opportunities that came our way just by being in the club. My core team had Lisha S SSRUTHI SANALHridya Krishnan, took up the application involving atmospheric pollution monitoring, extending the research, trying to see loopholes in the existing system, trying to see significance of each gas present in the air, and so on. Space club was a space were we can talk on ideas without being called nerd. A space to express ourselves, all kinds of thoughts.
With our ongoing research, we applied for KSCSTE grant, tried to get in on KETCON - Kerala Technological Congress, which we did - a delightful trip to GEC, Thrissur.
Me along with Hridya Krishnan won the district level KSEB Seminar competition, participated in zonal level at Alappuzha, and we got appreciated for our presentation skills by professionals. (really going to dig into those certificates.)
And at last, before leaving college, LIZY ABRAHAM came to the class and addressed everyone and I would treasure the words she had for me...
🌌 Join the Next Step Towards a Sustainable Space Future! 🚀
Our last roundtable unveiled the immense potential of a responsible and sustainable space sector. As we stand on the cusp of rapid space advancements, it's clear: we must balance innovation with environmental care.
🛰️ The value of space tech, from satellites supporting our economy to climate science shaping policies, is undeniable. It's about understanding space's essential role in our daily lives and transparently communicating its merits.
🌍 The journey isn't without challenges. Robust regulations are crucial to ensure our space endeavours are both economically fruitful and eco-friendly. With the Astra Carta framework and the UK's National Space Strategy as starting points, collaboration across governments, industries, and academia is key.
✨ It's not just a dream. It's a moral duty. By leveraging space's potential, sharing insights, and uniting efforts, we can drive both economic growth and combat climate change. Let's come together to safeguard our final frontier.
📅 Don't miss the chance to be part of the next pivotal discussion. Join us and be a steward of space's sustainable future!

This week I had the pleasure to participate in the ESA Space Solutions Space for Blue event in ESTEC representing TripleAlpha. It was a great opportunity to share ideas, techniques and solutions about the challenges we are facing in the maritime sector. As the sector itself, these challenges are huge, and I am impressed to see how we are pushing technology to solve them.
Data is paying a key role in the whole (blue) economy. Every new day we can find more data, more accurate and from more data sources, nevertheless its reliability and confidence are more in question. We shared how our work on the data aggregation and analysis optimizes the use of natural resources and increase the productivity and efficiency in the industry. And also, how to thanks to the RESIST project from DLR GfR mbH and Francisco Gallardo López, we can avoid jamming and spoofing events and increase the data quality.
Thank you to ESA Space Solutions for organizing this very interesting and exciting event, thanks to all the participants that truly inspired me. I am looking forward to work closely with you and to see you soon again and share more news.

Visiting ESA/ESTEC for the first time was a personal great achievement but it was also the opportunity for me to realize how powerful European collaboration is (mainly for the French-Toulouse-born woman that I am 🤭)
To act fast in the competitive space race, thinking with 22 brains is obviously a challenge for Europe. But it is also a strength to rely on collaboration, which was clearly demonstrated at ESA during the Clean Space Industry Days on 17th and 18th October.
I met people whom I rarely had the chance to discuss with, coming from different backgrounds, different countries, learning about their challenges, sharing our vision, of today and tomorrow.
Zero Debris is an ambitious goal but a much needed mission for all the actors along the value chain. #SpaceSustainability is not anymore a concept, but in action. It can be problematic for businesses, but this is why it is important to consider sustainability as a mandatory requirement and integrate it as soon as possible into their product/service roadmap.
