As we observe #NationalMinorityHealthMonth, it’s crucial to address disparities in maternal health outcomes. Research shows that mobile health clinics are an effective form of health care delivery, advancing #health equity by improving access to care. Private equity firms have been increasingly investing in women's health since 2017. However, access and quality of healthcare have not improved, making it unsustainable for the health and well-being of the American people. These firms' true objective is not altruism, but rather their label: equity, the more, the better. Their modus operandi involves acquiring larger and smaller practices in the same geographic area, using debt to finance the acquisitions, increasing net revenue, and then selling the practices within 3 to 5 years for considerably more than the price paid. Unfortunately, the debt is left with the practices they purchased, and the equity investors walk away with the money. This is another element making healthcare unavailable for all. #womenshealth #policychange #privateequity #healthcareinnovation

New data from Annals of Internal Medicine suggests that women are less likely to die when treated by women doctors. This adds to continued evidence that women and minorities often receive inadequate treatment—and it’s exactly why we need more women in health leadership, where we already know that they provide care that meets women patients’ needs. When women lead in health, we can improve care for women and girls across the board. Specifically, by working to reduce biases, improve funding for women’s health, and ensure that every woman feels comfortable in the doctor’s office, we can save lives. 

At Thirty Madison, we know that #TelehealthBreaksBarriers, especially in women’s health. More than 40% of Nurx patients live in the South, and rely on us for the care they need across the spectrum of comprehensive health care needs, from reproductive health to mental health. I’m grateful and proud to have contributed to a new issue brief from RHITES (Reproductive Health Initiative for Telehealth Equity & Solutions) and Manatt Health on behalf of Nurx. Together, we identified five key takeaways to expand access to telehealth for medication abortion (TMAB) care in a constrained policy environment. The research findings focus on: * Improving the public understanding of the safety and effectiveness of TMAB care * Addressing regulatory barriers to telehealth, including TMAB care; * Improving the overall economics and coverage of TMAB care; * Expanding training on TMAB care to expand the availability of providers, and therefore, patient access; * Establishing referral channels and education around TMAB services. This was another opportunity to collaborate with incredible leaders from companies also focused on women’s health, including our partner Hey Jane.

A new #CalltoAction, launched on #UHCday by MOMENTUM Safe Surgery and many implementing partners, highlights five priority actions to support postpartum and post-abortion #FamilyPlanning (PPFP and PAFP) scale up in #UHC: 1️⃣    Integrate PPFP and PAFP across the six WHO health system building blocks, with an emphasis on stewardship, governance, and leadership to enable adequate health financing and workforce. 2️⃣    Engage communities to address stigma, bias, social and gender norms, and understand client motivation and needs for accessing PPFP/PAFP services, including via digital tools. 3️⃣    Engage and strengthen the private sector, expand what the private sector can provide, and assure quality. 4️⃣    Strengthen health information system coverage indicators for counseling and measurement of voluntary PPFP/PAFP uptake for more reliable data. 5️⃣    Reallocate financial resources for equitable access. US healthcare presents numerous challenges, yet it also offers abundant opportunities. Among these opportunities lies a significant area that often goes unnoticed despite its vast potential. Older women face unique medical challenges that are not receiving the same level of attention as other healthcare initiatives. This recent WaPo article highlighted this issue, emphasizing the need for increased focus in this area. The US and Canadian population are witnessing an increasing number of older women. This demographic represents a compelling opportunity for both private and public funding, promising substantial long-term financial returns. Enhancing women's healthcare, spanning from reproductive health to end-of-life care, has the potential to positively impact the lives of many individuals while also offering attractive returns on investments. Investing in women's healthcare not only addresses a critical need but also paves the way for significant advancements in the healthcare sector.
