Time to Talk Day 2024 👄 It's Time to Talk day and we all know too well that we often hide behind a smile rather than tell people how we really feel. As a legal professional, there is pressure to hide your authentic self in an attempt to portray to clients and colleagues a person who is dependable and strong. The recent Profile of the Profession survey carried out by the Law Society of Scotland showed nearly two out of three Scottish legal professionals have experienced mental health issues in the past five years... I'm one of them. Whether you are struggling now or have struggled in the past, there is no braver act than to speak openly about it and, in my experience, this is the first step in the journey to getting the help that you need. Maybe we need to realise that dependable and strong people are ok with letting others know that they're struggling? You are not alone - it's ok not to be ok. I hope this Time to Talk day you have someone to talk to and, if you don't feel like you do, ping me a message. Let's use the opportunity today to ask someone how they're doing, how they're really doing. If you need support, LawCare - Legal mental health & wellbeing charity, See Me and SAMH can all help. #timetotalk #mentalhealthawareness #wellbeing

Henrico CASA prioritizes the mental health care of children and their families. Adverse experiences like abuse, neglect, and traumatic loss impact not only a child’s present mental (and physical) health, but their future health, as well. I am looking forward to tuning into this webinar chaired by Lloyd Rees!
I'm back to Chair another LawCare webinar for Mental Health Awareness Week very soon! The webinar will be on Thursday 16 May at 12.30pm and we are looking at something different this time: "Let’s talk about the billable hour". In this webinar we will explore the pros and cons of the billable hour, its impact on legal culture, its effect on client relationships and mental health, and how it can hinder access and progression within the profession. We won’t only focus on the well-known challenges; instead, we will explore actionable strategies for effecting change. Get ready for a lively debate on this enduring topic. I'll be joined by a stellar panel of speakers: Mark Blois, Libby Clark (Coreno) & Polly Sweeney. You can learn more about the panel here: https://lnkd.in/eY2tkjrk You can book your free place here: https://lnkd.in/e5n7KH7V LawCare - the mental health charity for the legal sector | Elizabeth Wall | Niamh Warnock | #MentalHealthAwareness

June 10 is Action Anxiety Day. Not all may know this, but I have struggled for the past 2 years with panic and anxiety. Talking about it has reduced the stigma, and made it easier to handle when the anxiety is creeping close to the surface. Action Anxiety is a national awareness and education day to help people learn about anxiety, reduce stigma, create awareness of our evidence-based resources, and raise funds to support our free programs. ACT stands for: Awareness – Raise awareness of anxiety and our trusted, evidence-based resources. Colours – Wear blue and orange on June 10 to show support! Talking – Tell your anxiety stories and encourage others to share. Let’s break the stigma together! There a tons of free resources for persons who may be struggling. Be open to talking to your workers in a safe, confidential manner if they are having mental health issues. https://ow.ly/NlNp50SckxB #ActionAnxietyDay #ACTonAnxiety #ACTdontAvoid #safety #health #healthandsafety #mentalhealth #reducethestigma

I started using Finch a few weeks ago, and unlike other self-care apps I've tried over the years, it's actually working for me! There's really something for everyone in the app, and the way it recommends tasks/goals is really great: I don't feel the usual pressure to complete everything like with other apps. If you miss a day, it's okay! There's the usual streak commitment, like many apps have, but it doesn't hurt in any other way to miss a day - your pet doesn't get hurt or sad, which more often than not further demotivates people to use the app. I really recommend Finch if you're on the lookout for a self-care app, because (at least for me) this one actually helps, and actually feels like self-care. (Of course, no self-care app can replace real-life help from professionals. But Finch truly does a good job of helping, especially with the first aid kit.)
10th October marks #worldmentalhealthday 🧠 According to the charity Mind, 2 million people are currently stuck on waiting lists for NHS mental health services. Real people are being left behind, they need support NOW, not in 6 months, not in a year... The digital landscape has responded, with hundreds of apps created to support those who might need it - Here’s my favourite one: Finch Care 🐣 This app perfectly combines the nostalgia of classics like Tamagotchi, Nintendogs, and Animal Crossing with daily journaling and habit-tracking features. Basically, take care of your pet by taking care of yourself ❤️ Your mental health matters every day, not just on World Mental Health Day, and for me personally, apps like this really do help!

The resources page is updated with several new resources! Check it out!
Our resources page has been updated to include a link to The Cooper Royall Foundation and National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). Both of these are deeply personal to my heart since I have worked for many special needs families and unfortunately too many children face abuse from family members, caretakers, peers, and online. All of us are uniquely different and have different ways of processing and dealing with our thoughts and emotions. We strive to channel them in a productive and healthy way, however sometimes we fall short. I’ll never forget the day the child I nannied told me I didn’t help them, when they needed someone to care for them. It crushed me. I care about all of the children I watch and support. They were acting out, hitting, and screaming. I asked them to go to their room. They were distraught. They told me someone hurt them at school and they felt more alone when sent to their room. In that moment I knew I messed up. I immediately apologized and share that I wasn’t the best I could have been, I didn’t want them to feel more alone. I reassured them I was there for them and realized, we need keep communication open. I was shocked at how such a young child could articulate how they felt and how I made them feel. I’m proud of them for telling me I fell short. I’ve nannied so many children who have had to face hard times of trauma. To maintain confidentiality I will not share the trauma these children have faced, but I will continue to love and support them. And I’ve started to ask, “How can I help you right now in this moment?” And I take their answer as their truth, and give them what they ask for. If their answer changes, they know I will be there to readjust and reassess with them - because we are a team! I hope these resources can also help you with your youth. I hope more youth feel like they have a team of soldiers behind them willing to nurture and work through challenges. https://lnkd.in/d7r4B_yx
