I love this post's sentiment, acknowledgement, and concept, but not the word 'unbearable', and it is not just because of my REBT psychotherapy training. Words matter. I learnt that long ago, and I use words significantly in all aspects of my life: work, rest, and play. As a grief therapist and educator, I speak to the bereaved more days than not. These people are bearing their grief because that is what we do; no matter how difficult, we bear it. If something were unbearable, then we could not endure it and go on. There are so many inspiring people who I could link to this article. They have borne the most unfathomable losses, and now they continue meaning-making, understanding, and growing daily around their loss. Some have created charities; you can see/feel/hear the moments when grief visits when speaking. They bear it. They bear their loss daily. I am in awe of them, learn from them, and work with them. This matters, words matter. Albert Ellis, the founder of rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, which I am a student of, would say that if we cannot bear something, we will no longer be able to exist. When we change the irrational thought that something is unbearable, we can reinforce the premise that it is bearable and start growing around our grief. If we communicate our intentions by using words that cause psychological disturbance, consciously or unconsciously, they become words that we can easily access and start giving them power. Snap me in half, and like a stick of rock, you would see the words Cruse Bereavement Support written through me, which is why I care so much about the words. Marcus Aurelius Don't try to picture everything bad that could possibly happen. Stick with the situation at hand, and ask, “Why is this so unbearable? Why can't I endure it?” You'll be embarrassed to answer. Then remind yourself that past and future have no power over you. The Stoic philosophers teach us much about grief, especially Marcus Aurelius, the most powerful man on earth at the time. And Epictetus, the slave philosopher. Failing that, pop culture will suffice. Nick Mulvey - A prayer of my own. Best lyric, "We bear the unbearable" https://lnkd.in/ephUUrPG
Wow! Skydives, coffee mornings, family fun days, hikes up mountains, tractor runs, art sales and choir concerts. These are just some of the ways our supporters have raised money for our special charity this year. Feeling inspired? There’s not long until CruseWeek and there are so many ways you can fundraise, remember loved ones and help those struggling with grief. Find out how 👇 https://ow.ly/1fX450U4eOV

I'm a trustee for Spark Inside - an organisation that brings together my belief in the power of coaching with an ambition to improve the outcomes for young people in the criminal justice system. Organisations invest significantly in executive coaching for their leaders to support and improve their resilience, personal awareness, confidence and decision making. Spark Inside takes this highly effective approach and extends it to young people who have had none of the life advantages of those in leadership, but huge unlocked potential. 96% of young people who have worked with Spark reported making progress in their lives. In real life terms that meant for one young person: “Every area of my life, [my coach] sat down and helped me realise what I could do better, and I’ve taken that on board. I’ve now got my own business, which I’m building, I have the highest paying job I’ve ever been in by far and I’m in a healthy relationship. Everything is better now.” If you'd like to help unlock the potential of a young person in prison, this week's Big Give will double your donation. So easy to do - just a few clicks, and you could change someone's life. #ChristmasChallenge24 #coaching #change #criminaljusticesystem
We've hit 88% of our fundraising target for the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge24 🎁 Thank you! We're raising £80,000 to support more young people in prison to thrive through our life coaching programmes. DOUBLE your donation before Tuesday 10th December: https://lnkd.in/e3fGAZwe

ICYMI: ReSurge was highlighted as one of the best charities helping burn victims in Impactful Ninja's 2024 listing of "9 Best Charities That Help Burn Victims." "Internationally, low- and middle-income countries suffer over 180,000 burn-related deaths annually, many of which could be avoided with timely access to quality care. Fortunately, charities around the world are working to aid survivors of burn injuries throughout the healing process. So we had to ask: What are the best charities that help burn victims?" How your donations are used to help special children The special children are those who need extra help to perform certain activities. It might be physical or psychological. Difficulty in speaking is one such physical disorder where the children couldn’t pronounce the words clearly. It takes a lot of effort to speak, unlike the other children who can speak clearly and smoothly Donate Us: https://lnkd.in/d59scnD #charityforspecialchildren, #specialchildren, #donateforspecialchildren, #speechtherapy, #specialeducation, #sponsorforspecialchildren, #healthcare, #education, #donatenow, #seruds, #kurnool https://lnkd.in/gtBiZHVq

Heart on Main Street is raising money to help retailers impacted by recent storms throughout the US. In the last two weeks, deadly tornados have affected entire communities and destroyed locally-owned businesses in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and Texas. This year alone, already hundreds of locally-owned independent retail stores have become victims of natural disasters. These unexpected disasters have affected retailers in every part of the country. While businesses are insured, there is often a gap between the cost of recovery and what they are paid out. This leaves retailers on the hook for thousands of dollars if they want to re-open their store and remain a part of the community. Independent retailers are huge drivers of the local economy and helping these retailers recover brings hope back to these affected communities. They bring a sense of normalcy to areas that have lost so much. We would love to help as many retailers and communities as possible, so, if you are able, please consider making a donation to Heart on Main Street, and help these communities recover. https://lnkd.in/gtdW9Tef
Did you know? Even a small donation can make a big difference in the lives of those impacted by the tornadoes. Here at Heart on Main Street, we believe in the power of community. Join us in supporting the recovery efforts in Oklahoma and Nebraska. Together, we can show the strength and compassion of our retail community. Donate now: https://lnkd.in/g7-tixGe

Strike Out T1D with Us This Weekend! Get ready to roll with purpose! This Sunday, November 10th, Leyton and I are hitting the lanes at Victory Bowl in Mankato for the fourth annual Strike Out T1D event. We’re excited to be bowling to raise funds for Camp Sweetlife, an incredible nonprofit camp that supports kids with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in living full, empowered lives. Why Camp Sweetlife? Camp Sweetlife isn’t just a camp—it’s a life-changing experience. It’s a place where kids with T1D get to be kids, enjoying all the classic camp adventures, surrounded by counselors and medical staff who truly understand what they're going through. Our goal is to eventually make this camp free for any T1D kid, ensuring no child misses out on this experience due to financial reasons. Here’s How You Can Help! You can support our team in a few ways: Pledge Per Strike: Donate per strike our team throws (like $0.50 per strike). Example: $0.50 x 50 strikes = $25. Pledge with a Cap: Donate per strike but with a max amount, like $0.50 per strike up to a $20 donation. Flat Donation: Keep it easy and give a set amount for the event! To contribute, you can donate directly to Camp Sweetlife here https://lnkd.in/gVmM3fZU or Venmo me, and I’ll make sure it reaches them. or, like and share this post to make sure it reaches as many people as possible. Together, let’s show kids with T1D that nothing can hold them back!
