Excellent initiative.
Two weeks left to apply! It is still the case that the UK craft sector does not accurately reflect the diversity of the UK as a whole and, for this reason, Heritage Crafts and the City & Guilds Foundation are taking positive action to target this bursary at Black and ethnically diverse groups who are currently under-represented in the craft sector. We believe that the value of our craft heritage comes from the diversity of skills and traditions across all of our communities, wherever they originated and whenever they were brought here. We want everyone to feel included in Heritage Crafts and our work, no matter how long they have called this country home or what their background may be. You could be just starting out on your journey in craft or at the point where you want to turn a hobby into a career, or you could already be a maker who is looking to further develop your heritage craft skills. Our training bursaries for Black and ethnically diverse trainees are supported by City & Guilds Foundation and are part of a wider scheme of training bursaries currently available. Find out how to apply at https://lnkd.in/er7sDUip. The deadline is 5 July 2024.

Almost 30 years ago, Nana Violet was part of a group of Aboriginal leaders from Ieramugadu (Roebourne) who designed an innovative employment program. The program was not designed to generate workers for industry, it was designed to empower the people of Roebourne to pursue a pathway that THEY are passionate about. Not about doing what the world EXPECTS of them. A way for them to break the mould. They called it Warrgamugardi Yirdiyabura. Which loosely translates to “pathways for employment” This week Nana Violet’s granddaughter Dolly started her apprenticeship on the program, as she pursues her hospitality traineeship through NYFL. We keep getting asked by industry and government, why does this program work so well? It is 100% designed by Elders. The ONLY people who can design an effective pathway through social and economic change are those at the heart of it. That’s why it works. As Australia learns this week that closing the gap will fail if there without fundamental change, the answer is found is cultural owned and driven initiatives around the nation. This program is culturally safe. It is operated by the local community. It is guided by Elders. It is understanding. It is holistic. It navigates and embraces kinship systems. It understand complex avoidance relationships. It takes a trauma-informed approach. It is OWNED and driven by local mob. It measures success not by statistics but by observing social change and empowerment. Just watch Dolly’s growth… #socialimpact #westernaustralia

Social Impact Specialist | Bridging the Gap Between Business and Communities | Driving Positive Change Through Innovative Solutions.
#Apprenticeships are crucial for the UK in addressing the skill gaps that many industries are facing. We all know there is more work to do, however it is also important to recognise some of the excellent work that businesses are doing to support apprentices to develop new skills and experience that will help them progress in life. Working for such a unique business I come across lots of excellent early years careers programmes delivered by our customers and supply chain partners such as Ørsted, Savills, KpH Group, Paye Stonework & Restoration Ltd. Here is an example of a how The Crown Estate through maintaining and developing our historic buildings can help to create apprenticeship opportunities within our supply chain (Sebastian comes in at 2:10). I'm excited for FY24/25 as The Crown Estate will be working with Workwhile to ensure that we are creating #apprenticeships across all of our developments with a specific focus on #sustainability and #greenskills #progressnotperfection https://lnkd.in/eVx9g4pE

It’s been a week since Vista Ridge High School’s Class of 2024 walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. As we send these young adults out into the world, I think many of us are asking if we could have done more to prepare this class, the one that entered high school in a year when much of their education was conducted online, where sports were limited, where gatherings were too often canceled or modified. I’ve only been working in secondary education for 3 years, but this class was different. They took a little longer to get the hang of high school, they were more skeptical of opportunities and requirements. And yet, many excelled, winning state level competitions (Show Choir), representing well at nationals (Cheer), and individually securing admission to prestigious colleges, D1 athletics offers, and apprenticeships in a variety of trades. We had graduates cross the stage who completed all their requirements for graduation a semester early. Others persevered up until the last minute so that they could walk across the age and call themselves high school graduates. Both deserve recognition for their efforts. And yet, what I want each of these graduates to realize is that they have been granted a fresh start and that every one of them is deserving of success and happiness. I also want them to know that true success and happiness can only be measured by oneself. Class of 2024, you are all capable of more than you could ever imagine. You are strong and resilient. Challenge yourself, follow your dreams, but never compare your success to that of others. Find happiness and satisfaction and leave a positive imprint on the world just as you have left Vista Ridge a better place than you found it. Congratulations!
