Thoughts from a seasoned pharma/biotech recruiter....feel free to chime in!
1) We don't always agree with our clients' choices, but they are our CLIENTS’ choices to make, not ours.
2) We advocate for candidates we feel should be given an opportunity to interview, but that doesn't mean our clients always listen.
3) We do educate clients on the market, their job requirements, their compensation package / offer, etc. Whether they use the information is out of our control.
4) We understand how badly you may want the job and how disappointing it is when you don't get it. We are human too, and we hate delivering that type of news ALMOST as much as you hate getting it.
5) No one should be laid off right before the holidays. Period. It’s just in bad taste. Companies should do better.
6) Recruiters should not ghost their candidates. It’s not professional. If you have submitted a candidate, you should always let them know one way or another if there was interest, or if they interviewed, whether they are moving forward or not. Chase your client down until you get an answer, even if you can’t get specific feedback, at least get a yes or a no. It’s human decency.
7) In today’s market, companies need to have a buttoned-up interview process, not one that is dragged out over weeks, sometimes months. Only nimble companies that have a streamlined, efficient process are going to get the top players.
8) COMPANIES should not ghost candidates that have interviewed. It’s unacceptable.
9) Companies also need to be more focused on the candidate experience during their interview process. I have heard so many outrageous stories from candidates about their interview process with various companies. When candidates have numerous opportunities to pick between, guess what one of the deciding factors will be? The candidate experience!
10) Our role is not to help people find jobs; our role is to fill roles for our clients. When we have time, we can help a candidate by marketing them to target companies, but not every recruiter will offer this.
