On World Malaria Day, we recognize the significant public health challenge posed by malaria, particularly for children under the age of five. During our CCI community health needs assessments in Africa, we have observed malaria infection rates amongst this demographic reaching between 50% and 80% at the time of study. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that within the WHO African Region, 80% of malaria deaths tragically occur in children under five. Our organization is firmly committed to ensuring equitable access to preventative, diagnostic, and treatment services for malaria. We believe everyone deserves the right to timely, affordable, and high-quality healthcare to combat this preventable disease. Preventive measures are crucial in the fight against malaria. These include: - Sleeping under mosquito nets in malaria-endemic areas. - Utilizing mosquito repellents containing DEET, IR-3535, or Icaridin. - Employing mosquito coils or diffusers as deterrents. - Wearing long sleeves and trousers during peak mosquito activity (evenings). We have a number of malaria awareness initiatives taking place across our sites, stay tuned to find out more. #malariaprevention #WorldMalariaDay #WHO #malariaawareness

🌍 Today, April 25th, marks World Malaria Day, a crucial date dedicated to raising awareness and fostering commitment to end malaria, a disease that tragically claims nearly 2,000 lives every day. Since its establishment by WHO Member States during the World Health Assembly in 2007, World Malaria Day has served as a platform to highlight the need for sustained investment and political commitment for malaria prevention and control. As we reflect on the challenges and progress, let’s spread awareness and adopt preventive measures: 1. Use Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets (ITNs): Sleeping under an ITN can significantly reduce your risk. 2. Apply Insect Repellent: Protect yourself with EPA-approved repellents. 3. Indoor Residual Spraying: Ensure that your home’s walls are treated to kill mosquitoes. 4. Seek Early Diagnosis and Treatment: Prompt treatment can prevent complications and fatalities. 5. Community Participation: Engage in community clean-up campaigns to eliminate stagnant water. Each step we take brings us closer to eradicating this disease. Let’s commit to prevention, support research and development, and ensure access to necessary treatments and interventions. Together, we can end malaria! #WorldMalariaDay #EndMalaria #PublicHealth

Today marks World Malaria Day. You, too, can be part of the solution. Every April 25, the global health community highlights important details of malaria disease and its prevention, which is still the main leading cause of preventable illness and death over the globe. It's a day set aside to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained commitment to eliminate the disease. As a life-threatening disease, it nearly affects around 249 million cases in 2022 and 608,000 deaths across 85 countries, with the majority of its burden recorded in Africa. This accounts for roughly 233 million (94%) of malaria cases and 95% (580,000) of malaria deaths across the continent. Among the deaths, approximately 80% are children under the age of five, while threatening the health and lives of pregnant women, particularly maternal and neonatal deaths. Everyone deserves to have the chance to live a healthy life, which is why commitment to finding solutions to eliminate the disease becomes our collective responsibility through collaborative efforts and partnerships. Achieving a malaria-free world will need us all to work together, contributing towards its eradication, with emphasis on philanthropic investment, offering a wealth of untapped potential in closing existing funding gaps in the malaria response. #WorldMalariaDay2024 #malaria #IbrahimIsmailElnafat

25 April 2024 Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world That is the theme of for World Malaria Day 2024 to highlight the urgent global campaign to raise in raising awareness for malaria prevention, detection and treatment services. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) global efforts to reduce malaria have stagnated in recent years. This poses a significant threat to public health and exacerbating inequalities within communities. Everyone has the right to quality, timely and affordable malaria services, yet this remains elusive for to many, perpetuating a cycle of inequity that affects the most vulnerable among us. Infants and young children, especially those under five, are particularly affected, with disparities in access to education and financial resources compounding their risk. Let us "Accelerate the fight against malaria for a more equitable world" through: - Ending discrimination and stigma - Engaging communities in health decision-making - Bringing healthcare close to where people live and work through primary health care - Addressing factors that increase malaria risk - Including malaria control interventions in universal health coverage Together, let us commit to accelerating the fight against malaria, forging partnerships and implementing evidence-based strategies to achieve a more equitable world where no one is left behind in our quest to end malaria for good. #PROUDLYMISA #MISACARES #MISAONTHEMOVE #MISAFAMILY

World Malaria Day 2024! Every year on April 25th, World Malaria Day reminds us of the fight against this preventable mosquito-borne illness. Malaria infects over 200 million people globally each year, tragically taking the lives of an estimated 400,000 – many of them young children. But there's hope! How you can protect yourself and your loved ones while raising awareness for a malaria-free future: 📌 Prevent Mosquito Bites: ⇒ Use insect repellent with DEET (a proven effective ingredient) on exposed skin when outdoors, especially at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. 📌 Sleep Under a Bed Net: ⇒ When traveling to malaria-prone areas, use insecticide-treated mosquito nets over your bed, even if you're staying indoors. 📌 Wear Protective Clothing: ⇒ Cover with long sleeves and pants, especially during peak mosquito hours. 📌 Stay Informed: ⇒ Talk to your doctor before travelling to high-risk areas. ⇒ They can advise you on specific prevention measures and prescribe antimalarial medication if needed. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Symptoms like fever, chills, headache, and muscle aches can appear weeks after a bite. If you experience these symptoms after travel, please feel free to seek medical attention immediately. By taking these steps, you're not just protecting yourself, you're contributing to the fight against malaria. Share this information with friends and family, and advocate for increased research and resources to achieve a world free from this devastating disease. Together, we can make a difference!
