Safaricom, the biggest public company in East Africa, has reconsidered the hiving off of the Mpesa-Mobile Transfer Services Unit. Mpesa contributes 42% revenue for the Telco group. The fear for capital gains tax that could result as a result of the spin off has been a key contributor.Similarly there is no indicators that such a split would improve the valuation of both entities, going by post spin off valuation of comparatives-Airtel and MTN. Intriguing to observe the evolution, impact & significance of the growth of MPESA over coming years to the company’s performance.Could it eventually fully turn into a Fin-Tech company? #Spinoff #Focus #Mpesa

Celebrating the strength, resilience, and magic of women today and every day! It was such a delightful experience to hear from such phenomenal women breaking barriers across diverse industries. Two key takeaways for me were: - You can’t be everything to everyone, at all times. So many of us struggle to find a balance between the work we do and our home or social life. It gets overwhelming, but you have to figure out what works for you. Whether it’s adjusting your schedule to prioritize rest, or working late hours to reap maximum results, find your groove and stick with it. - Social impact goes beyond setting up an NGO or joint a Non-Profit organization. I believe each one of us makes an impact in the work we do, one way or the other. If it’s hard to identify, then you’re not digging deep enough. More so, you don’t need so much to make an impact. It could be as simple as sharing a resource which could change the trajectory of someone’s career, or dedicating your time to train an intern, or new team member. A big thank you to Stratcomm Africa for putting this event together. I can’t wait for the next one!

Fantastic AfriCatalyst the importance of the role of Credit Rating Agencies cannot be over emphasized, as investors rely on them to actually know the types of retun that are likely and the speed at which the returns would be generated should in case the investors are to invest. For the alternative going forward, in as much as African Union (AU) suggested the setting up of Credit Rating Agency that would be based in the Continent, but must importantly as you Daouda Sembene, PhD rightly mentioned, to empower local Credit Rating Agencies based in various African countries - I'm not sure if we have Rating Agencies in many countries in Africa but for those you have it and those newly setting it up like Gambia can be empowered by building their capacities through rolling out training packages such that individuals from such agencies be better equipped with specific issues such as how to minimize subjective ratings therefore cut the cost of further debt servicing. #CreditRatingAfrica
As we gear up for tommorrow for our #CreditRatingAfrica event at 🕓4pm EAT Our CEO Daouda Sembene, PhD spoke with CGTN Africa about the importance of finding new ways to enhance risk perception and issue fair credit ratings for better access to development financing. 📱 The #MobileGenderGap is not going to close on its own, and while there has been some progress in the last year, the gender gap in #MobileInternet remains substantial. But we know that with informed, targeted action it is possible to make a real difference. This is demonstrated by the GSMA Connected Women Commitment Initiative where mobile operators have made formal commitments to accelerate digital and financial inclusion for women across Africa, Asia and Latin America. In fact, since 2016 over 50 mobile operators have made these formal commitments to reduce the gender gap in the customer base of their mobile internet and/or mobile money services, collectively reaching over 70 million additional women. Today on #InternationalWomensDay, we are thrilled to announce that so far 22 mobile operators across Africa and Asia have made or renewed their commitment beyond 2024 to reduce the gender gap in their customer base of their mobile internet and/or mobile money services, as part of the GSMA #ConnectedWomen Commitment Initiative. Thank you to all our partners for their continued efforts to drive digital and financial inclusion for women across low- and middle-income countries ♀️ Learn more about the Connected Women Commitment Initiative here 👉 https://bit.ly/2ENa3CS #MobileGenderGap #InspireInclusion #IWD2024 #InternationalWomensDay #GenderEquality #DigitalInclusion #finclusion #UKAid #Sida Banglalink Mela Bangladesh, Dialog Axiata PLC Sri Lanka, EcoCash Zimbabwe, ethio telecom Ethiopia, Grameenphone Ltd Bangladesh, Indosat Indonesia, Jazz Pakistan, JazzCash Pakistan, Mobilink Microfinance Bank Ltd Pakistan, MTN Ghana, MTN Nigeria MTN Uganda, Reliance Jio India, Robi Axiata Limited Bangladesh, Telenor Pakistan, Telma Madagascar, Telma Comores, Tigo Tanzania Plc, Togocom Officiel, Ufone 4G Pakistan, Vodacom Tanzania Plc and Wave Money Mayanmar
