The are 138,000 children living in temporary accommodation in England and this is set to rise to 310,000 by 2045. This disrupts their education, affects the chances in life and puts huge pressure on families. It's time to tackle this #Twogether and make sure that every child has a warm, safe, affordable home. That's why we are supporting the National Housing Federation's call for a #planforhousing and asking the next government to commit to delivering more homes for social rent, invest in homelessness services and provide more support for the hardest hit families. #Twogether we can end child homelessness and help ensure everyone has a place to call home.

The "Lucky Country" must establish a more structured and coordinated Approach among agencies, businesses, corporates, government, entrepreneurs and individuals to tackle the homelessness issue. Having homeless shelters and/or building social housing is only an important part of the broader solution. As we know -in some cases- mental health issues are major contributing factors as well, to the extent that some "choose" to remain homeless. These should not deter us from -at least- reducing it at its minimum expression. It is also important to highlight, learn and integrate best practices such as The Salvation Army, Oracle, Foodbank Australia, Woolworths Supermarkets, Vinnies CEO Sleepout SA Ozcare #followers
Our Child Homelessness Snapshot 2024 highlights how lack of access to housing, income support that is too low, and inadequate funding of homelessness services is resulting in homeless children and families being unable to escape homelessness. This #HW2024 we need action on social housing investment and increased income support, and significant new investment in homelessness services to meet demand. National Homelessness Week 🏠 This week is National Homelessness Week, a time to raise awareness and show support for those experiencing homelessness and housing stress. The housing crisis is affecting more and more people, leaving many struggling to find affordable and secure housing. At Community Plus we believe in coming together to advocate for change and support initiatives that make a difference. 💔 Homelessness Services are Overwhelmed: · In 2022-23, 273,600 people were assisted by homelessness services · In 2022-23, a further 108,000 people sought help but were unable to be assisted because of shortages of staff, or accommodation or other services (AIHW 2023). · That’s 295 people a day turned away because services are overstretched. · 80% of those being turned away were women and children, many of whom are fleeing domestic and family violence. Affordable housing is essential for everyone. Investing in public and community housing can help provide stability and security for those in need. Join us in supporting a #FairHousingFuture and stand with Community Plus this National Homelessness Week #NationalHomelessnessWeek #SupportOurCommunity #EndHousingStress #FairHousingFuture https://lnkd.in/eG2nfENd

Tonight’s the night! Tonight I’m sleeping out at the MCG, joining close to 1000 others, to fight to end youth homelessness! With more than 100,000 people on the social housing waitlist, it is estimated that at least 60,000 additional social housing properties are needed across Victoria over the next 10 years - just to maintain current levels. There are more than 3,200 young people aged 15-24 who are turning up to homelessness services alone each day. They don’t have the safety or support that all young people need. Together we have the power to end youth homelessness. https://lnkd.in/d3Tmabag

In case you missed it, last week SBS World News ran a story on #YouthFoyers. Homelessness Australia’s Kate Colvin says: “When young people flee a violent home or end up in a situation where they’re homeless, sticking with education can be really difficult because they don’t have the family supports that other young people have.” That’s why we’re working with a consortium of 15+ organisations to call for investment in an additional 10, forty-unit Youth Foyers nationally, which provide young people with housing plus education, employment and life skills supports - all under one roof. We’re also strong supporters of the #HomeTime campaign for an additional 15,000 tenancies for young people and extra support services. Thanks Alex Lipman, Brea Dorsett and Tyrah Chan-Hampton for speaking up about your experiences of homelessness and the difference living in a Youth Foyer made for you. As we continue to recognise World Homeless Day, we’re proud to reflect on the impact we’ve made at Beyond Housing. Over the past year, we’ve supported more than 3,000 individuals across the Ovens Murray and Goulburn regions—people who were either facing homelessness or at risk of it. Homelessness affects people from all walks of life, and each story is unique. But the solution remains the same: Housing ends homelessness. The top causes include: 👉 Housing crises 👉 Family violence 👉 Housing affordability stress People experiencing homelessness often face multiple and complex needs, and we are seeing growing numbers of younger and older Australians without a safe, stable home. Demand for services continues to rise, and it’s clear: we need more social and affordable housing to help those most vulnerable in our communities. Let’s raise awareness today and work towards creating real, lasting change. Home. Not homeless. #WorldHomelessDay #BeyondHousing #HomeNotHomeless #AffordableHousing #HousingEndsHomelessness

Great to be in Westminster today at the lobby of parliament organised by Homeless Link and Riverside with organisations from around the country, who all want to work together to end homelessness. Shadow Homelessness Minister Mike Amesbury MP spoke powerfully about the injustice of children being made homeless and living in unsuitable temporary accommodation and the three pillars of his approach to tackling this crisis: ✅ A cross government task force with a long term strategy focused on ending all forms of homelessness. ✅Building more social housing ✅ Prevention, with more investment in trauma-informed care and other evidenced based interventions. It was great to hear about this long-term strategic approach. At the National Housing Federation we are calling for a #PlanforHousing to fix the housing crisis. With a long term plan the next government can end child homelessness, build more social homes and ensure more people have a safe, secure place to call home.

653,104 That’s how many people are experiencing homelessness on any given night in the United States. More than half a million people is staggering, yet it’s a fraction of reality. Volunteers count those unhoused in their communities on a single night. The method is imprecise and often leaves out those staying with family or friends or in vehicles. But even a fraction of the story tells us this is one of the most intractable problems of our time. #Homelessness not only deeply harms the individuals it impacts; it threatens progress and prosperity for all. The National Alliance to End Homelessness estimates that taxpayers spend an average of $36k for every chronically homeless person. This social and economic issue demands a social and an economic solution. Enter Lotus Campaign. We engage the private sector and deploy philanthropy to open access to market-rate, mixed-income housing NOW without government funds or support.

In recognizing the importance of safe and secure housing for children, it becomes critical to address homelessness and housing instability to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive. A safe and secure home environment is crucial for the well-being and success of children. A stable home provides a foundation for their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. By investing in organizations like TPCS that offer affordable housing initiatives and supportive services, we can create environments where children can reach their full potential and contribute to the strength of our communities, thus breaking the cycle of homelessness. #endhomelessness #essexcounty #homelessshelter

As part of the Youth Homelessness Strategy, The Housing Agency in partnership with spunout has created a series of videos on housing rights and supports available for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. In this series of videos, you can learn more about your rights when renting accommodation. 📢 There is information on deposits, notice periods, the rules around evictions and what to do if you need emergency accommodation. 🏚 The first video can be viewed below and talks about deposits and rent increases. 📖 For more information on other supports and services available for young people, please see the Supports Guide for Young People here https://lnkd.in/ewsijJV3
