Bredec Group Bredec Group Tell HN: Yekaterina Duntsova barred from Russian presidential election: Yekaterina Duntsova has recently become very popular in Russia as an anti-Putin, anti-war, democratic candidate She recently held a voter meeting to get the signatures legally required as a first step to become a presidential candidate. It was not easy since the police visited all the notary offices and there was only one which continued to work. However, it was successfully done Today she came to Central Election Commission and they said that the (verified) documents she had contained 100 errors, therefore they will not register her as a candidate. Notably, one of the "errors" was one signature which looked like a cat - it was later confirmed as a real one by SOTA, and Russian laws have no restrictions on signatures, one can even use an emoji. The CEC will only give an official conclusion tomorrow, which will prevent Yekaterina from going to court as soon as possible. As usual, more roadblocks from the government are expected, even for the other candidates While Russian opposition forces are not united, the consensus seems to be to go and vote for any candidate that's not Putin, and Duntsova would be a great choice here. You may think something like "this is Putin's own election, no one else can win, it's stupid to even try". But it's not about winning since that's absolutely impossible and everyone knows that (she even openly says that). It's about showing that the are more anti-Putin people in Russia than one would think, about uniting them and showing their true voice. There is finally a legitimate, legal way to protest against the dictatorship and the war, even if the outcome is unclear I wrote this post since Algolia showed no results about these events and I thought it would be great if HN audience knew what's happening, thank you for reading --- Comments URL: https://lnkd.in/dUx9XMxH Points: 1 # Comments: 0 info@bredec.com Inquiry@bredec.com

Against the buzzy background fog of extreme interest in AI and elections, the specific manner in which AI-synthesized tactics impact elections in 2024 will unfold in ways that we haven’t yet predicted. The scale and rapid pace of change is likely to lead to manipulation “scripts” that we haven’t even anticipated yet. With that in mind, it’s more important than ever to monitor elections around the world that are already happening. They are the real-world laboratories to gather data and see the novel types of AI-associated tactics that can be employed (especially in crisis situations). These will provide clues on current weaknesses and potentional responses. This will remain a moving target throughout 2024. Silicon Valley and AI developers … are you watching? On Nov. 14, Vladimir Putin signed amendments to Russia’s presidential election laws, allowing for voting on Russian-occupied territories in eastern and southern Ukraine. The new law also bans non-accredited journalists from recording videos at certain polling stations and sessions of the Central Election Commission, raising concerns about transparency and potential electoral fraud. The new laws mark a notable shift in the country’s electoral system, facilitating Putin’s expected bid for re-election in 2024. On Oct. 13, PACE already urged the international community to no longer recognize Putin’s legitimacy as president beyond 2024, citing concerns about his unchecked power. HRF expresses concern over the lack of independence of Russia’s electoral system, which is tailored to benefit Putin. We urge the global community not to recognize the results of the upcoming presidential election in Russia. https://lnkd.in/g5e6biEX

Right, so let's make an exception from the rule, that I don't post anything political on here (although I'm sure sometimes you can read between the lines with my other posts). So Boris Nadezhdin needed to collect 100,000 signatures from all over the country. According to the organisation's own claims they managed to collect more than double that. But they're only allowed to submit 105,000. Now, the Swiss among you will know, that you need at least a 10% margin for invalid signatures. So even if the electoral commission ran everything fairly (which of course they don't) it would be quite difficult to get to the 100,000 signatures. And of course they're finding many many more "invalid" signatures (what a surprise) and perhaps even build up a case of fraud against Boris. So I doubt he'll make it onto the ballot. I guess what I'm trying to say is: The whole system is rigged against candidates other than you know who. It's a complete farce and it's really obvious. But can't the Russian political elite at least admit they're not interested in true elections and save everybody the hassle? I mean, the Chinese don't even pretend to have national elections, so at least they're honest about it. https://lnkd.in/dQ4FZhvp

Chinese Influence Operations and Election Interference in Taiwan The first report looks at the evolving landscape of Chinese influence operations to interfere with Taiwan's elections. It analyzes past and current tactics, techniques, and potential scenarios China employs to sway electoral outcomes and public opinion in Taiwan. The brief begins by identifying key tactics used by Beijing, including intensified disinformation campaigns that portray Taiwan as facing imminent war risks and attacks on Taiwan's government, accusing it of restricting freedom of speech. It also highlights the strategic weaving of false narratives through fake personal accounts and the spread of disinformation via online discussions and fabricated articles. The second report covers the intricacies of the division of labor between official media outlets tasked with disseminating positive propaganda and non-official sources, which adopt a more aggressive tone. The strategic alignment of messaging serves as a testament to the CCP's global aspirations in shaping a favorable information environment. Moreover, we look at the intricacies of the CCP-driven disinformation campaigns, focusing on Taiwan and the United States. These campaigns are designed to erode trust and propagate China's unification narrative. The report discloses the nature of China's information warfare, characterized by the adept utilization of positive and negative messaging strategies. These strategies are harnessed to influence public opinion, both domestically within Taiwan and on an international scale. The report sheds light on the pattern of Chinese interference in Taiwanese elections. This interference transcends conventional boundaries of political influence, posing a direct challenge to the integrity of the electoral process. The analysis draws from authoritative sources and reporting, providing invaluable insights into the evolving landscape of Chinese electoral interference in Taiwan. These findings underscore the pressing need for heightened vigilance and robust countermeasures to safeguard the democratic principles that underpin Taiwanese elections. https://lnkd.in/gC25rqxU
