Uber has announced plans to launch a phone-booking ride service in Australia which is a bit of a “back-to-the-future moment”. Why? 📱Research conducted by YouGov showed 93% of Aussies aged 65 and over felt more confident booking services over the phone, and hoped the hotline could provide a new transport option for them. 📱Australian has an aging population and this is a move to appeal to those over 65 who do not use ride-sharing services and prefer to book transport over the phone. How it works 📱Users ring from their mobile phone to a toll free number to arrange a pickup 📱Available between 5am and 8pm, the service also helps users set up an account and the app should they wish. 📱 Callers will need to have a mobile phone handy to receive their ride details over text 👏👏👏 congratulations Uber for doing the research, listening to your customers and pivoting into the opportunity. Customer centricity in action. This new feature will not only appeals to the older market, but those with accessibility needs. 

Dear Uber - You should read this seriously Your tech team should be put to task - seriously Your customer service team needs to come into action Your UX person needs to take a new course Your QA team perhaps needs a new job Your investors should see this FAUPA Your customers should see this harassment Your CEO should see this and ask questions Just saving your money from customer service by putting FAQs and also ensuring that you have helpline number ONLY for drivers and NOT for consumers doesn't make your life easy. You have literally put the consumer in this case right on the spot, middle of the road to be taken to task by a rowdy auto driver, where the asset is also not yours and there is no single liability. Have you taken India or Indians for granted ? Are the local help AKA Customer Service for all mobile cabs - 100 or 911 ? Where the hell does the poor customer go into such situations ? The way primary care doctors and primary care programs can help solve the current crisis is by triaging primary care practice to MA, NP, Pharmacy and GP levels. All 4 layers have to be empowered by AI and automation. The goal to transition as much to automation as possible. If a GP has to say hello to 50 patients a day while seeing 10 by himself or herself while others being supervised by them as needed, that is ethically alright. A system that delivers safe, relevant care is the goal. As long as focus is to provide tremendous value to the patients aka customers. If you are looking at politicians and other folks to solve your problems or patients problems, good luck to you. Its the same good luck I wished to the cab drivers when they were launching campaigns against uber. Until uber replaced it. Oh, the ride-share industry is on fire... again! 🚗💥 Looks like Uber and Lyft decided to flex their muscles this quarter. If you've wondered why your app's buzzing more than a bee around a soda can, here’s the scoop: Uber's MAUs (Monthly Active Pacers…okay, Passengers) bounced up a smooth 14% YoY in 2Q24. And here's the kicker, they did it by tuning their social ads to attract what I like to call ‘the frequent riders club’. You know, those folks who use Uber to go, well, everywhere? Including imaginary trips to chuckle over this post. 🤣 Then there's Lyft - not to be overshadowed - clocking in record driver hours! Earth to everybody, that’s a 29% jump in their app babysitting drivers. That's right, while you’re deciding whether to swipe for a ride or not, Lyft drivers are practically living in their cars. All thanks to a crafty little shift in focus towards getting more drivers than a rush-hour traffic jam! But really, have these guys found a cheat code or what? Today I took the most expensive #Uber ride in the world… . . . Just to give some context, I took a 6 km ride from my home to office in #Gurgaon . When I asked the driver how much do I owe him, he said “7 Lakhs”. Being startled, I looked into his screen and the amount displayed on his screen was around 7 crore 54 Lakhs… So far it is understandable that this must be a technical glitch. But my driver was not ready to accept that this could be a technical glitch. He was adamant that I pay the entire amount to him. Luckily my colleagues came to my rescue before he could get aggressive (which could simply have been triggered due to the fear of having to pay #Uber this absurd amount if I did not pay him). But some questions are worth pondering: 1. What if the amount to be paid was not so absurd but still bloated? Has anyone had such a experience? 2. What if I was not in a place familiar to me or where I could easily summon help? 3. Why does #Uber not provide a helpline number which people can call to in case of a technical glitch of such magnitude? 4. In the current help section when I go to the ‘Help with a trip’, my disputed ride is not reflecting there even 30 minutes after the driver has closed the trip on his app? Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good walk. To and from meetings, to the office, wherever I go over the weekend, I walk there. Yesterday, as I brought my daughter along to my day of meetings, I listened as our Uber drivers shared their childhood, stories of the gentrification of London and their own parenting experiences. I was reminded again of the power of a shared space and authentic stories. Each driver I encountered was a proud first-generation immigrant, and rather than scroll on my phone I decided to listen... ...Such a rich tapestry of stories was shared. As the blur of the city passed us by, I found a powerful shared space in the simplicity of these car rides. A space where the passion for knowledge and wisdom was conveyed in the most personal and authentic way. Each driver's narrative was a testament to the power of listening, and it reminded me of the essential human connection that underpins our daily interactions. One story, in particular, struck a chord with me. My Uber driver shared how, thanks to a new safety feature that allows drivers to alert an SOS status for anything they deem unsafe, he was able to prevent a potentially dangerous situation for a child. It highlighted the importance of people understanding the role they have in society, even in what might seem like unassuming day-to-day roles. Yesterday I almost survived from a heart attack. Thanks to Uber . . . Just to give some context, I took a 6 km ride from my home to office in #Noida . When I asked the driver how much do I owe him, he said “8 Lakhs”. Being started , I looked into his screen and the amount displayed on his screen was around 8 crore 89 Lakhs… so I checked on my screen and the amount was the same. So far it is understandable that this must be a technical glitch. Luckily my driver was good he understood that there is some issue still he tried for 20 min if the trip reflects the correct amount but after waiting for 20 min he asked me what was the amount that displayed when u booked the cab I said rs 130 he asked me to pay the same and give my mobile number to him in case of any discrepancy. #Uber But some questions are worth pondering: 1. What if the amount to be paid was not so absurd but still bloated? Has anyone had such a experience? 2. What if I was not in a place familiar to me or where I could easily summon help? 3. Why does #Uber not provide a helpline number which people can call to in case of a technical glitch of such magnitude? 4. Every massive business is replacing humans with automated chat bots. It may appear a small thing, but something inside tells me, this is the beginning of the end of these mono/duopolies for laying these steel barriers on customers’ reachability. And on the topic of this glitch of 7 Lakh, I wonder if Uber ever thought about putting a maximum amount to a ride within certain time duration for a certain location in a certain class of drive. I dont think anyone should get any bill excess of anything that is too far from reasonable. God knows what happens to the #ai while designing for customer satisfaction. Oh wait.. I think we know the problem… there is no one thinking about the customer satisfaction right from the whiteboarding stage.
