Field Placement Friday! Our second-year student, Luke, has gained valuable hands-on experience in Conway, South Carolina, for the past six weeks. Under the guidance of the experienced team of professionals at the "#288 Mighty Mules," Luke has been learning and implementing operational best practices. From drinking gallons of sweet tea to spending time with the team outside of work, Luke had a blast and even had some hair-raising fun while there!

It’s summertime! The academic year at colleges and universities has concluded and our campuses have gone quiet(er) in terms of students. My 10-month faculty just went off contract on June 15th and except for those teaching summer classes, faculty offices have gone quiet(er) as well. As we look forward to vacation time with family to mentally recharge, summer can be a time to recharge professionally. Whether it is your time to read that stack of work-related books you could not get to, earn a certification, take a graduate course, or overall upskill in a new area, what is the ONE thing you want to accomplish professionally this summer? I’ll go first…I have some new certifications I need to earn in preparation for my new job here at Carroll. More on that in another post. 😊

Kicking off this week with a trip to school to talk to KS3 students about education and career paths – which got me thinking, what did I wish I’d been told at that age? 🔍 Look for helpers – Find mentors/inspiring people willing to help you find what you want to do (and don't worry if you've got no idea!). Surrounding yourself with supportive people is key. 📗 Education vs On-the-job training – When I was in school there was a huge emphasis on getting a University education. Which was the path I ended up going down but looking back placement and on-the-job training would have been equally valuable without the heavy £££ fees.* ❤️ Find your passion – Find a job or create a path that makes you happy. “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” - Mark Twain What would you have wanted to know? *A heavy caveat, having a degree is what helped me secure my job at Venture Stream in the beginning. I started on a Graduate Scheme as employee number one almost 10 years ago! [Picture description: A young primary-school-age Adele with butterfly face paint. Plus a sweater shop t-shirt for top nostalgia.]

🌟 Three years ago, I made a bold decision – one that has reshaped the future of Net Visibility. 🌟 I chose to invest in young people. Our goal was simple but ambitious: find the brightest talent, train them the Net Vis way, and give them the kind of responsibility they wouldn’t easily get elsewhere. We built on years of experience working with young talent during A-Level and university holidays, but this time, we were aiming higher. We embarked on a degree apprenticeship programme, offering the right candidates the opportunity to gain a BSc in Leadership and Business Management whilst learning Digital Marketing at Net Visibility. Alan Hansen famously said, "You don't win anything with young people." How wrong he was! We’ve found the perfect blend of "grey hair and young flair," and it’s been a massive success. Our team is a mix of experienced industry experts (also known as the ‘old gits’ who were in marketing long before Google, Facebook, and Snapchat even existed) and the raw, infectious enthusiasm of young talent. Yes, some days it feels like running a kindergarten, but the rewards are there for all to see. Actually there is an argument that the biggest kid in the team is yours truly! This week, we proudly welcomed Millie to the team and sent Kofi off for a well-deserved holiday in Australia. Don’t worry – Tigger will be back soon, fully recharged! If you're thinking about growing your business, I highly recommend considering degree apprenticeships. It’s not without its challenges – you need to ensure everything is documented and not just stored in someone’s head – but the benefits are huge. We’ve managed large-scale Google and Facebook advertising campaigns, thanks to this powerful combination of fresh energy and seasoned wisdom. Here’s to continuing the journey, investing in the future, and proving that a mix of young people with seasoned professionals really is the key to success. 🙌 #Leadership #DigitalMarketing #Apprenticeships #Growth #YoungTalent #Mentorship #BusinessTransformation
Your feed must be full of proud parents posting their kids outside the front door on their first days back at school. We were feeling pretty left out so we thought we'd join in with our amazing Net Vis apprentices! We’re thrilled to welcome Millie Hunter to the team – it’s great to have you on board! 🎉 Bayley Fennell has been with us for 10 months now and continues to make incredible progress. We’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved so far! A big shoutout to Sophie Bateman and Kofi Miller who have both hit an impressive 3-year milestone with us. Kofi has officially finished his course (congratulations! 🎓) and is off on an exciting adventure to Australia for the next month 🌏. Soph is nearing the finish line with her course and is set to complete early next year – keep going, you're so close! We are lucky to have such an inspiring and hardworking group, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for each of you! 💪

This is what BCPS does with CCBC!
We had a fantastic time participating in this week's Baltimore County Public Schools Career Expo at Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville! It was inspiring to see hundreds (maybe thousands) of students eager to explore future career opportunities right here in our community. "Every time we invest in our students, we are at the same time investing in our communities." - Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis, Ph.D, CBCC President. With over 300 program and workforce options available at CCBC, we were proud to share the diverse career paths students can pursue in their own backyard. Events like these are invaluable for connecting students with local career and apprenticeship programs. A big shoutout to the Baltimore County government, BCPS, and CCBC for their collaboration in making this event possible!

National youth employment expert; passionate about community & opportunity for all, College Governor and Deputy Lieutenant
Providing data, evidence and insight to our Members about all things youth employment is exactly what we are here for. Youth Employment UK has expert knowledge across the whole youth employment landscape, what is driving youth unemployment, what the system issues are, what young people aged 11-30 including those who are NEET are telling us what works and does not work and of course what the impacts and plans are of policy and policy makers. Add in the expert insight we have on what makes #GoodYouthEmployment and the value of Membership speaks for itself. For 12 years we have been digging into the issues and solutions and given that youth unemployment is a growing issue, we absolutely need to see more of that expert insight put into practice by employers, providers and policy makers.
