Senior Vice President | Schneider Electric Home & Distribution International Hub | Transforming the way we manage energy at home | Accelerating sustainability with our expertise in innovation and cross-team collaboration
The decarbonization of the built environment is a pressing priority, with jurisdictions in the U.S. and Canada aiming to enhance energy efficiency and transition existing buildings away from fossil fuels. All existing buildings need energy upgrades, involving more efficient building operations, a shift to electric or district heating systems powered by renewable energy, and the utilization of carbon-free renewable energy. Read this article from Buildings where Rohan Kelkar EVP, for Global Power Products Schneider Electric, shares his thoughts on making buildings more energy efficient: https://lnkd.in/gHM3q3Hx #partnershipsofthefuture #decarbonization #buildings#retrofitting

Founder at NXTGEN Clean Energy Solutions |Sustainability Consulting + Solar + Wind + Battery Storage + Electric Vehicle Charging + Solar Light Poles | Helping businesses improve the bottom line and the environment
Greensburg: From Tragedy to Clean Energy Leadership On May 4, 2007, a devastating tornado struck Greensburg, Kansas, destroying most of the town. While some homes on the outskirts were salvageable, the town's core was left in ruins. Amidst the debris, the 1,400 residents faced the daunting task of rebuilding their lives and community. Rather than simply restore what was lost, Greensburg chose to reinvent itself as a pioneer in clean energy. With guidance from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a division of the Department of Energy, residents and businesses learned about the long-term savings of energy-efficient upgrades like heat pumps, solar panels, and efficient windows. Many took this advice to heart, focusing on energy efficiency and tornado-resistant construction. Today, Greensburg is a model of sustainability: Wind Energy: Ten wind turbines generate 100% of the town's electricity. Solar Power: Numerous buildings are equipped with solar panels. LED Lighting: The town installed LED streetlights, a cutting-edge technology at the time that is now widespread. Greensburg’s story is a testament to resilience and innovation, turning a disaster into an opportunity for sustainable growth and energy independence. P2S, a Legence Company, applauds the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s release of a standardized, verifiable basis for defining a zero emissions building. The National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building: Part 1 Operating Emissions is a comprehensive guideline to provide a broadly accepted minimum standard for what constitutes a zero emissions building. By setting clear and measurable criteria, this definition offers a harmonized approach guiding public and private entities in transitioning the building sector towards zero greenhouse gas emissions. With our Chief Engineer, Kent Peterson co-chairing the Federal Building Decarbonization Task Group and ASHRAE Task Force for Building Decarbonization, we’re ready to hit the ground running toward a zero-emission future.
