Climate Action & Finance | Partnerships for Sustainable Development | Environmental & Social Impact Assessment and Safeguarding | Resource Mobilization
I had the opportunity to participate in this workshop as a #civilsociety representative. The workshop offered interesting insights into the work being done on developing Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS) for Pakistan at present. I was pleased to learn that there is general consensus amongst the relevant stakeholders about what the LT-LEDS look like for Pakistan - Reducing emissions from #energy and related sectors is the key priority. However, I did walk away with many questions about what Civil Society's role or contribution, if any, is in developing and/or implementing #LTLEDS as the focus of discussions was squarely on what businesses or corporations and the government can do or are doing in relation to the same. I also walked away with some misgivings about our collective resolve and preparedness to address the daunting internal and external challenges (political and economic instability, limited resources, increasing #climate impacts, for example) that Pakistan faces or will face as it works towards compliance with its commitments and the goals of the #ParisAgreement. Nonetheless, I will continue to follow the work being in done in Pakistan on LT-LEDS and hope that it bears the fruits we so desire. Thank you to UNDP Pakistan for the invite. #decarbonization #climateaction #unicef #MoCCEC #MoPDSI #GIZ #climatefinance #climateaction

In 2024, Nangolo Mbumba, president of Namibia, noted that the world is at a crossroads. One path leads to environmental catastrophe, widening inequality, global conflict, destruction, and the rise of dangerous technology; the other to peace, the eradication of poverty and hunger, and the responsible harnessing of digital technologies for the benefit of humanity. In 1987, John Paul II wrote that solidarity is "a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good, that is to say the good of all and of each individual because we are all really responsible for all." Solidarity is the point of the United Nations, as the SDG's evidence. Vote for decent people, sure. But, arguably, governments have systematically failed to drive solidarity and are almost ALL failing to achieve any of the SDGs. The UN may be the last chance. World over, every day, nature and our Planet Earth is speaking and crying out to us. It is seeking our attention and intervention to the pressure meted on it. All we are witnessing from climate change, human wildlife conflicts, human land conflicts, droughts, hunger, mental health challenges, political conflicts, to radicalisation of young people are but communication from nature. In as much as there are efforts to address the challenges emanating from the pressure on the Planet, we need to tackle the real problem. The problem is our software as habitats. We must endeavour to begin changing behaviour to embracing sustainable attitudes and behaviour change towards the Planet. Through Change for Planet Foundation, by our rallying call "Planet, People, Peace for Progress", we are calling on the World to change for Planet Earth through our programme areas: 1. Climate Change , Mitigation, and Sustainable Agriculture. 2. Youth and Women Development/Livelihoods. 3. Good Governance, Peace and Coexistence. We look forward to partnering with you for a better Planet for us and the future. #Change4Planet Email: info@change4-planet.org www.change4-planet.org AGRA UNDP KENYA ActionAid CABI Wanjira Mathai African Development Bank Group The Consortium of African Youth in Agriculture and Climate Change (CAYACC) DAI World Economic Forum Ford Foundation .

Sad to note that the world is failing to deliver on the promise of sustainable Development according to SDGs report 2024! Key highlights of the failures are : - We have only 6 years left to work on the SDGs goals and that's a really short period indeed! We need to pull our socks and collaborate more. We need also to embrace innovative approaches as change agents. - The impact of the COVID pandemic, escalated conflicts, geopolitical tension and climate chaos and these affect the progress of SDGs. This is evident in the East and Horn of Africa where we have the Congo crisis, Sudan and Ethiopian ongoing conflict; Humaterian shocks in Somalia, climate change problems and declining good governance across the board. -More than 23 Million people have been pushed to extreme poverty and 100 more now suffer from hunger. This situation is more dire now in most parts of Kenya so much so that the country had to go through a demonstration to tackle the cost of living as one of the issues. - Let's keep an eye on the above progress and work towards addressing the SDGs . Be informed of the Summit of the future event https://lnkd.in/dRMM7MNG . I hope the Accountability Lab will keep us in the loop of this event which can onwards inform our intervention as change agents aluminum under the labs . The report details are shared in the ReliefWeb website below https://lnkd.in/dn639Qxq Let's leave no one behind and support inclusive development even as we work together on SDGs #sdgs2030 #sdgsummit2024 #PSI
