Community Engagement and Stakeholder Consultation in CCUS Projects In the rapidly evolving field of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), technical innovation is only one piece of the puzzle. Equally critical is fostering trust, transparency, and collaboration with local communities and stakeholders who are integral to the success of these projects. As a technical professional with extensive experience in oil and gas exploration, I’ve seen first-hand the importance of early, meaningful engagement in shaping project outcomes. When communities feel heard and involved in the decision-making process, CCUS initiatives are more likely to succeed, not just technically, but socially and environmentally as well. Here are a few strategies I recommend for effective community engagement and stakeholder consultation in CCUS projects: Early and Transparent Communication: Engage communities and stakeholders from the project's inception, not just after major decisions have been made. This transparency builds trust and helps to identify potential challenges early on. Tailored Approaches: Every community is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. It’s essential to understand local concerns, cultures, and values and to adapt engagement strategies accordingly. Collaborative Decision-Making: Stakeholders should have a seat at the table, with their inputs meaningfully incorporated into project plans. This collaborative approach not only strengthens relationships but also enhances the project’s long-term viability. Sustainability and Shared Value Creation: Projects should aim to deliver long-term benefits to the local communities, beyond just economic gains. This could include job creation, skills development, and environmental stewardship programs. By prioritizing community engagement and stakeholder consultation, we can build not just successful CCUS projects, but stronger, more resilient partnerships. The future of energy is collaborative, and our ability to listen and work together is key to driving sustainable progress. #CCUS #CommunityEngagement #StakeholderConsultation #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #CarbonCapture #OilAndGas

What's it like working as a Natural Capital Implementation Manager? CIWEM Environmental Partner Rebecca S. has worked in this role at United Utilities for 7 years, and she has spoken to us about a typical day in her job: "Typically, I start my day by catching up on emails and setting out tasks to complete for the day. Much of my work is ongoing, so it helps to break down large projects into smaller objectives to keep track of progress. I also like to keep updated with advancements in natural capital and nature-related reporting by attending webinars and occasionally speaking as a panel member to contribute to the conversation. An important part of my role is maintaining industry contacts and sharing experiences with colleagues to ensure I can bring best practices to my activities." Find out what skills Rebecca needs to do her role, the recent projects she's worked on, and how CIWEM has helped her professional development 👇 https://lnkd.in/eNWhiis2 #ADayInTheLife #NaturalCapital #Environment #CharteredMember
