📢 🧃 As communicated by Packaging Gateway & Inside Packaging, ALIER and Tetra Pak have collaborated to establish Alier as one of Europe's largest post-consumer carton recyclers, according to Tetra Pak." This partnership also positions Alier as an integrated player capable of processing all materials from used beverage cartons. Through mechanical recycling, the polyAl will be transformed into high-quality pellets suitable for various end markets. In the year 2022, it was estimated that 360 million metric tons of plastic waste were generated globally, with the Asia Pacific, North America, and Europe accounting for 40%, 25%, and 10% of the total waste generation. The realisation that manufacturers have a crucial role in minimising the environmental impact of their products throughout their lifecycle, from production to disposal, gave rise to the development of an EPR framework, under which manufacturers are legally and financially accountable for their products throughout their entire lifecycle. Read key findings from recent Flexible Plastics Fund on flexible plastic packaging collection report in #UK by SUEZ, RECOUP, WRAP and Ecosurety. The report showcases the early findings from the seven local authorities currently running pilots covering nearly 30,000 households from across the UK.   Data confirms quality of #flexible #plastics #packaging collected is generally very good, with 90% being recyclable today, close to 70% mono-material polyolefins based. This is aligned to surveys done in the past by CEFLEX - A Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging across European countries. Currently these flexible plastics are not collected across UK. Revised proposed packaging #EPR schemes by authorities will require its collection by March 2027, this is a KEY enabler to get them collected and ensure they can be recycled and not lost.
