In the year 2022, it was estimated that 360 million metric tons of plastic waste were generated globally, with the Asia Pacific, North America, and Europe accounting for 40%, 25%, and 10% of the total waste generation. The realisation that manufacturers have a crucial role in minimising the environmental impact of their products throughout their lifecycle, from production to disposal, gave rise to the development of an EPR framework, under which manufacturers are legally and financially accountable for their products throughout their entire lifecycle.
