Nice!!! The Moving to Work (MTW) Demonstration program expansion allows the 14 selected housing agencies to test innovative strategies for improving administrative efficiency and resident services. By granting flexibility to these agencies, they can develop customized solutions tailored to their communities' needs, potentially informing future national housing policies. This can benefit jurisdictions by encouraging creative problem-solving, increasing housing choices for families, and sharing best practices that can be scaled nationally. Keep an eye out for what these jurisdictions accomplish because it may be headed your way if they succeed.

A big day today with the launch of the North East Housing Partnership. Bernicia is one of 17 social housing providers joining forces to tackle the crisis of building more genuinely affordable homes in the North East - supporting the new Mayoral Combined Authority with its ambitions. John Johnston, Vice Chair of the North East Housing Partnership, said: “Through the partnership I hope to see housing providers from across the North East shift from a group of individual organisations, working in relative isolation, to a strong and unified partnership. “When we invest together, work together, and plan together, we can achieve economies of scale, shape supply chains, regenerate communities, decarbonise our region, create and prepare people for jobs and support longer, healthier lives. That there are STILL a PLETHORA of buildings, offices and HOMES sitting empty due to over-extension of foreign investment and irresponsible debt-loans by our national banks SITTING EMPTY while people are sleeping outside in tents should concern EVERY CANADIAN. Alas, the issues go on. PUBLIC ACCESS TO SOCIAL SERVICES AND FOOD AND SHELTER IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. There is MORE THAN ENOUGH to share. And those who are taking too much are committing crimes against humanity by depriving so many in this city BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. That there are an infinite number of white men being paid sunshine list salaries and that these social services are not only inaccessible but public health itself has been PURPOSEFULLY neglected to make room for PRIVATISED care is INEXCUSABLE. Skirting the HUMAN RIGHTS of ALL is NOT how CANADA WORKS. I would tag the Government of Ontario in this post but they are not able to be tagged (nor is our Premiere) via LinkedIn ROOFS OVER HEADS and SAFE SHELTER FOR ALL IN NEED. TD RBC CIBC Rogers Communications Bell JUST THESE COMPANIES ALONE HAVE AN INFINITE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY - glamorously and regularly renovated, like so many of the mansion homeowners in The City of Toronto who own multiple properties and vacation homes and the business owners paying employees less than a living wage while acquiring more property like it's a MONOPOLY game, has demonstrated #SYSTEMIC caste abuse within this province also. That our grocery giants and media giants are bragging about their enormous bonuses being extended to those who already have SO MUCH MORE THAN THEY NEED should shock us all. But this is also evidence of a gap in #HUMANITY that must be noted and accounted for. When we are in a global crisis - the rules change. #everychildmatters THAT is what #equity looks like. Stepping Forward: The Housing Policy Partnership's First Meeting Last week marked an exciting milestone as we convened our first meeting of the Housing Policy Partnership (HPP). Co-chaired by National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA) and the Department of Social Services (DSS), this collaboration marks a significant step forward in reshaping our housing landscape for the better. The roots of the HPP's creation can be traced back to the unanimous approval by the Joint Council in December 2022 under Priority Reform One of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. This pivotal step stands as a testament to our shared commitment to elevating housing as a core priority. Reflecting on our first meeting, we're energised by the power of diverse viewpoints coming together to chart our path forward. The HPP remains dedicated to incorporating vital voices, stories and insights from our community, ensuring our work aligns with genuine needs.
