According to Aid Worker Security Database last year a total of 504 women and men aid workers were killed and injured. Humanitarians and civilian infrastucture are increasingly becoming target. We must end normalization of the increasing attacks on humanitarians on this #WorldHumanitarianDay and call all those in power to #ActForHumanity.

The displacement crisis in Sudan has worsened due to extreme weather conditions and severe floods! Even before the start of the armed conflict, floods have increasingly devastated communities over the past five years, Thousands of people have lost their homes, and farming communities are suffering as crops are destroyed. In Sudan, August became a well-known month for volunteer work, where youth, community members, and the private sector, come together to support those affected by floods. Now, more than ever, there is an urgent need for infrastructure reforms and building climate-resilient communities in our country! #Sudan #climatecahnge #displacementcrisis #keepeyesonsudan

Over 1 million people have fled Sudan and more than 6 million people have been internally displaced within the country. Those leaving Sudan have fled to Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, where agencies like JRS have been providing support and relief to the displaced populations. JRS offers three ways that you can help those who have been forced to flee from the conflict in Sudan: 1. Give: To accommodate the influx of refugees, an urgent and emergency fund is needed for early response. JRS will continue being present where the needs are greatest 2. 🚨 The situation in #Sudan is dire.The number of people facing hunger has more than doubled from a year ago. 🔴 WFP urgently calls on #Sudan’s conflicting parties to guarantee safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian food assistance to civilians trapped by the conflict. 🚨 Since the outbreak of war in April last year, #Sudan has descended into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The country is at imminent risk of collapsing, and on the verge of mass famine – with its food supply decimated, young children are now starving to death in its cities, villages, and displacement camps. Despite the severe challenges, Islamic Relief has delivered vital aid to more than 953,156 people all over the country, including distributing food and cash, supporting health facilities, providing hygiene and dignity kits, and more – alhamdulillah. 💙 Aid workers and local community groups are doing everything possible to stop the situation from deteriorating any further, but we urgently need more support. More than one million people are displaced in Lebanon as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to escalate. Corus organization Lutheran World Relief is in Lebanon. World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is observed annually on 19 August to honour humanitarians worldwide and their tireless efforts to serve communities. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which resulted in the death of 22 colleagues. The tragedy profoundly changed how humanitarians operate from being respected to being targeted – and led to the creation of WHD. 2023 marked the deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers worldwide. 2024 is on track to be even worse. In Syria, the conflict continues unabated after more than 13 years of fighting. In 2024, it remains one of the world’s largest displacement crises. Almost half of the country’s internally displaced residents reside alone in the northwest. Since 2014, over 12,700 civilians in north-west Syria alone have been killed by hostilities including at least 130 aid workers.
