🚶♂️🌞 Yesterday, as I was walking through the beautiful streets of Madrid, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pride seeing how our city is evolving with Smart Mobility. As I strolled past electric buses, shared bikes, Car Sharing Points, and electric car charging stations, I realized how much Madrid is leading the way toward a cleaner, more connected future! 🌍 With EMT Madrid deploying over 820 electric buses, we are building one of the largest e-bus fleets in Europe, reducing emissions and making public transportation greener. 🚍💚 Companies like Ferrovial are at the forefront of developing AI-powered traffic management systems, helping to reduce congestion and create safer, smoother roads. 🚦 And it doesn’t stop there—startups like Cabify and Zity by Mobilize are offering solutions, making it easier than ever to get around sustainably. 🚗⚡ On my walk, I saw BiciMAD smart bike-sharing in full action, showing how cycling is now a core part of our city’s mobility. Madrid’s progress is backed by real numbers: over 350+ EV charging stations and more than 20,000 electric vehicles on the road. The transformation we’re witnessing is a result of innovative collaboration between public and private sectors, with companies like Iberdrola | bp pulse providing the infrastructure to support this change. 🔋 This afternoon´s walk reminded me that Madrid isn’t just a historical city—it’s a global leader in Smart Mobility. Proud to be part of a city that’s truly building a sustainable and innovative future. 🌟 What is your city doing to become a Smart City? I’d love to hear how urban transformations are happening. #SmartMobility #MadridInnovation #SustainableCity #UrbanTech #GreenCity #ElectricVehicles #FutureOfTransport #Proud #MorningWalkInspiration

New for 2024: Implementing Mobility Hubs to Reduce Car Dependence in Cities. Mobility hubs are centralised stations that offer multiple modes of transport all in the same place, featuring public transport, shared vehicles, rentable micromobility options and more. As cities move away from emission-heavy modes like private cars, providing attractive and reliable alternatives is important. It has been found that most people would require at least four options of travel at any given time to consider giving up a car, and mobility hubs aim to do just that. This course provides insights from industry experts including; Rebecca Karbaumer from the City of Bremen, Michael Glotz-Richter, and Lorenza Dell’Erba from the City of Bologna. If you work in urban mobility or want to know more about mobility hubs and how to access them, use the link in our bio to sign up for the course for free through the EIT Urban Mobility UMX Academy link here: https://lnkd.in/eWsqR-Qn With special thanks to Jens Müller and yopro media for their contributions to the course! #MobilityHubs #UrbanMobility #UrbanPlanning #EITUrbanMobility #onlinelearning #eLearning

Today I had the pleasure of representing Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) in a panel discussion organized by BUS2BUS alongside esteemed speakers from the #mobility sector, exploring the #future of #urban #transportation. 🚌💡 We tackled some crucial questions: 🔌 When will the electrification of buses be complete, and what hurdles are we facing? 🚍 How are customers embracing new mobility solutions, and what trends are emerging? 🌍 Progress updates on demand-responsive mobility in global hubs like Berlin, Paris, and London. 📊 Exploring benchmarks for effectively networking urban spaces and suburbs. Key #takeaways from todays session include: 1️⃣ Public transport is a major driver for a sustainable future and is an important #economic factor for cities. 2️⃣ Innovation in public transport is essential for the upcoming transition processes. 3️⃣ On top of that we need a fast track to net zero for all projects contributing to reducing #CO2 emissions, esp. shorter approval procedures. Many thanks to BUS2BUS for hosting such an enlightening session! 🙌 Let's keep driving towards a smarter, more sustainable future for urban transportation. 🌐 #WeilWirDichLieben #HenrikFalk Jenny Zeller

Are shared mobility services really sustainable, and are people willing to use them? A recent study we have performed shows that this should really be the case. One of the main reasons why automated mobility could make road transport more equitable, efficient and sustainable is the possibility to finally unlock the potential of shared and pooled mobility services. Whether people will eventually embrace this possibility for their daily mobility is however still widely uncertain. In a study just published on Smart Cities MDPI we have assessed preferences and impacts of a pooled navette service available to the employee of an international organisation to reach the surrounding transport hubs for their business trips. Results provide clear evidence on the potential benefits of these solutions and the need to support building the political and technical framework required to favour their widespread deployment. Congratulations to the team for the very interesting study! Ada Garus, Andromachi Mourtzouchou, Jaime Suarez Corujo, Georgios Fontaras Proud to be part of the EU Science, Research and Innovation

Meet & Match - a Great Step Towards the Amsterdam MoLo Hubs Pilot🚀 The City of Amsterdam hosts the pilot for integrating mobility hubs with hubs for service logistics. This means that spaces must be defined and car parking areas🅿️must be adapted in order to optimise its logistical use. At the end of June various providers of emission-free transport vehicles came together with potential users for a ‘Meet & Match’: Contractors from the construction industry, installation technology and other providers of equipment and technical services.🛠️ During the meeting the project leader Frank Ebbink also pointed out that there is still room in the pilot project for entrepreneurs who want to test alternative transport options in view of the introduction of the low emission zone.🌱 Susanne Balm from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences🎓presented a calculation model to the public in which variables such as journey time, time spent ⏱️searching for a parking space and costs for the hub/cargo bike💰could be entered. Summer time! Mpact colleagues and public transport enthusiasts Jasmien and Caroline took a ride on the longest tram line in the world: the coast tram at the Belgian coast! 🚊 The tram ride De Panne - Knokke covers 67 km and takes 2h30min to complete. Though a pit stop in Oostende is warmly recommended ☕ 👩🦽 Accessibility: There is still a lot of work to be done for accessibility, but stops with accessible platforms are dotted along the whole coast. The old trams have been replaced with accessible, low-floor varieties 👏 There is an arrow with the direction present at every stop, so new users never board a tram in the wrong direction! 🚂 Mobility hubs: Several of the stops form a hub with the local train stations: De Panne, Oostende, Blankenberge, Knokke. There are a few other hubs in between, e.g. in Nieuwpoort, where you can switch from tram to bus, shared car, shared bike… 🚧 Technicalities: the tram is unidirectional (which creates a prime seating area with a view in the back) and needs to be turned on a loop or ‘triangle’. The tram line requires an extra high quality ‘sand sucker’ to keep the beach and the dunes out of the rails 😁 🎉 Fun facts: The current model tram is called “zeelijner” (“sea liner”, a nod to “ocean liner”). When the first part of the tram line was installed in 1885 it was still a steam tram! 😱 Next time you’re in Belgium and you're looking to fill half a day, you know what to do! 🏖️ #publictransport #mobility #belgium
