A 30-Storey Development Proposed: Brisbane's New Residential Tower Sets a New Standard for Green Living! Aria Property Group is back with a fresh vision for its Urban Forest tower in South Brisbane. After its initial proposal was set aside, the design has been reworked and is now ready for a comeback, promising to be one of the world’s greenest residential buildings. This innovative project will feature a remarkable 827 trees and over 27,000 plants across its lush facade. Located on a substantial 2,784 sq m site at Merivale and Glenelg Streets, the new design reintroduces the building height to 30 storeys while reducing the total apartment count to 321 units. The mix will include one to five-bedroom apartments, catering to diverse living needs. As part of a broader strategy to meet Brisbane’s housing demands, this project stands as one of the first applications under the Kurilpa Temporary Local Planning Instrument, which allows for increased density and building heights while promoting sustainability. The design, inspired by Milan’s Bosco Verticale, aims to integrate nature into urban living. With a rooftop communal area that boasts a 50m infinity pool and landscaped gardens, the Urban Forest will not only redefine residential living but also create a vibrant public space. More than half of the ground floor will feature open-access greenery, fostering community interaction and environmental education. With the 2032 Olympics on the horizon, Brisbane is keen to position itself as a leader in sustainable architecture. Aria aims to make this tower a landmark that embodies the city’s commitment to green living. As Aria development director Michael Hurley notes, “We want Brisbane to be mentioned in the same breath as Singapore as a global leader in green buildings and sustainability.” #BuildingTalks #BrisbaneDevelopment #BrisbaneProperty

LIVING SPACE FOR ALL Housing is a core need of a society. And this includes affordable, high-quality space for living as well as public space. It is therefore all our duty to ensure that everyone - regardless of their financial situation - has the right to a good living space. First and foremost, this requires diversity at a wide range of levels - preferably demanded by the state. Because the time of residential blocks is over, we need to knit our city into diverse neighbourhoods. This is why we are developing a variety of spaces with people as the main focus. We architects need to scrutinise our tasks more closely and not only consider the structural, ecological and economic aspects of a building project, but also the political, financial, cultural and social aspects - Think buildings holistically. Who are the users? What are their needs? Which stakeholders does a new place need? What impact do these people have on each other and on the neighbourhood? What financing models are possible - building groups, private ownership, privately financed or subsidised, community buildings or assisted living. As a team of architects, we need to not only have this mix in mind but demand it. Read more in our Dossier: "Living Space for all" on our website. 🌍 Exploring Modern Living Arrangements: Adapting to Contemporary Lifestyles 🌍 At Edge Creatives Studio, we believe that architecture should evolve to meet the changing needs of society. Today, we're exploring five innovative forms of living that reflect contemporary lifestyles and the architectural solutions that support them. 1. Co-Living Spaces Co-living is a modern housing solution where individuals share living spaces, such as kitchens and living rooms, while having their own private bedrooms. This arrangement fosters community, reduces living costs, and makes efficient use of urban space. Benefits: Enhanced social interaction, cost savings, and reduced environmental footprint. 2. Sustainable Living Communities These communities prioritize sustainability through eco-friendly building materials, renewable energy sources, and communal green spaces. They aim to reduce the ecological footprint of their residents while promoting a strong sense of community. Benefits: Reduced environmental impact, lower utility costs, and a healthier living environment. 3. Multi-Generational Homes Multi-generational living involves designing homes that accommodate multiple generations under one roof. These homes feature separate living areas for privacy, along with shared spaces for family interaction. Benefits: Stronger family bonds, shared expenses, and versatile living arrangements. 4. Cluster Living Cluster living involves a group of individual homes or apartments clustered around shared spaces such as gardens, courtyards, or communal buildings. This approach fosters a close-knit community while maintaining private living spaces. Benefits: Enhanced community interaction, shared resources, and increased green spaces. 5. Assemblies Assemblies, or intentional communities, are designed with a shared purpose or lifestyle in mind. These communities often emphasize collective decision-making, shared resources, and sustainable living practices. Benefits: Strong sense of community, shared responsibilities, and sustainable living. 💬 What innovative living arrangements have you encountered or experienced?
