Today, we remember the victims of 9/11 as Capt. Benjamin Oakes, commanding officer of USS New York (LPD 21), shares the significance of the ship's tribute while operating in the NAVEUR-NAVAF area of operations. Part of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG)-24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC) team of teams, LPD 21 remains dedicated to supporting U.S. and allied interests, ensuring regional stability, and deterring aggression in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. I was honored to be working at Raytheon on the LPD Program when the USS New York was being built. I remember hearing that steel from the World Trade Center was part of the ship. As a retired Navy Chief that means a lot to me. Go Navy!!
It's really a amazing organizational structure.
GO Navy and Never ForGet nor ForGive!!
Thank you all for your service! 👍❤️
God Bless the USN and all who serve!

1moHaving attended the commissioning of the ship it was quite moving. An amazing example of shipbuilding ingenuity and a tribute to the fallen of 9-11-2001.
