Where are these people going to live and work? Reading Tasmania's Population Policy that was released today absolutely highlights the need to have state direction on how this population growth will be spatially delivered, to achieve the best outcomes for Tasmanians now and into the future. The Tasmanian Division of the Planning Institute of Australia has been advocating for a state settlement strategy that will do just this. It will bridge the gap between the population strategy and the regional land use strategies currently being reviewed to ensure that we get the right growth in the right places supported by what is needed to make great communities. It will ensure the Tasmanian planning system is ready to go. Without one, we run the risk of unaligned regional land use strategies premised on the basis of different growth scenarios. This will create misalignment between the population policy and the planning system that will be left to resolve at the coal face of the planning system, to the detriment of the community and industry. 'An honest broker'. The role of Rural Housing Enabler (RHE) as an honest broker is being championed by the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs and ACRE (Action for Communities in Rural Areas). The recent increase in support has enabled Surrey Community Action to welcome another RHE, David Cowan, to join Nicola Davidson to increase our capacity to serve our rural parishes in Surrey. Find out more about the role of a Rural Housing Enabler and how we can serve you and your community in our latest #RuralHousingWeek blog. https://lnkd.in/eJTt43Jq #ruralhousing #ruralhousingenabler #ruralsurrey

Rural isn’t a place to leave – it’s where swaths of diverse populations come and thrive. It’s where traditions are passed down from generation to generation, perseverance and dedication are valued above all, and a sense of community runs deep. Across American history, rural communities have led nationwide policy changes that improved lives around the country. Today, these rural communities stand ready to innovate once again. Urban heterogeneity is driven by systemic inequities like oppression, residential segregation, gentrification and displacement, unjust zoning laws, homelessness, etc. Those issues don’t only impact people. Kootenai County grapples with pressing growth challenges, notably impacting housing affordability and community cohesion. The surge in new residents, lured by the region's scenic allure and steadfast values, has precipitated a staggering rise in housing costs, effectively sidelining many long-standing locals. While short-term market fluctuations may offer fleeting respite, the imperative for enduring solutions remains paramount. Strategically amplifying housing inventory while nurturing the development of walkable, community-centric habitats emerges as an indispensable strategy. Beyond mere dwelling spaces, envisioning neighborhoods with integrated amenities like schools, parks, and local businesses becomes imperative. This holistic approach not only fosters a sense of belonging but also cultivates a shared responsibility for communal well-being. As a contender for Kootenai County Commissioner, I pledge unwavering advocacy for conscientious growth strategies, anchored in safeguarding our region's unique ethos and preserving its distinctive character. Together, let us chart a course towards a sustainable future—one that upholds Idaho's essence and nurtures a thriving, inclusive community fabric. Vote John Padula on May 21, 2024, and join me in shaping the destiny of our beloved county. #responsiblegrowth #votepadula #countycommissioner #kootenaicounty #northidaho #padulaongrowth #idaho

📣 The easiest way to start delivering benefits to your community is by opening up clear routes of communication with them. This means being transparent in how your business makes decisions. Sylvestris has supported the Scottish Land Commission in drafting guidance on how rural businesses can create transparent routes to negotiate changes in use, tenure and ownership of assets. It's called: Diversification of Land Ownership and Tenure: Practical Guidance for Rural Land & Property Managers. Hopefully, this guidance and example will smooth the way for future conversations with communities and community members, and help businesses identify where there may be opportunities to diversify land tenure and use on their properties, contributing to the resilience of their communities. Natural Capital and Environmental Land Management - Sylvestris // Nature Finance - UK National Parks
This is a useful and practical note from Scottish Land Commission. Charlie Davis supported SLC to compile the guidance, taking experience from when relationships between communities and landowners work best, and the factors that risk them breaking down. The guidance requires positive and constructive action from both sides. Our experience is that when that happens, relationships are stronger, and more understanding; and, when the circumstances are right (which the guidance helps to establish), diversification of tenure can bring real benefits for land-based business and their local communities. #landmanagement #ruralestates #scottishlandcommission

#TBT Did you see this crucial report from Headwaters Group and Hispanic Access Foundation finding that 44% of Latinos live in US counties with a high #flood risk, compared to 35% of non-Latinos? According to FEMA, 1 in 4 Latinos live in a county that experienced a flooding disaster in 2023, compared to 1 in 10 non-Latinos. Climate change and resiliency are civil rights issues and must be part of an all-sector strategy across housing, work force, health, and more.
