Physicians are increasingly interested in using phages to combat infections that are multi-resistant to current therapeutic treatments. A team from the University of Pittsburgh is attempting to "combine these phages with antibiotics". "In the journal mBio, these bacteriologists and infectiologists present a new case study of a drug-resistant bacterium responding to combined phage-antibiotic therapy." https://lnkd.in/eNefnK2v

Prof. Hanan Hamed presented several real-world clinical cases of congenital and acquired thrombosis along with their clinical examination and management approaches. She underlined that anticoagulants are the mainstay for the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism. Additionally, the current focus is on factor XI inhibitors, which have the potential to uncouple thrombosis and hemostasis, thereby providing safer anticoagulation. Check out the joint session IUA/AFAVS under the auspices of the v-WIN Foundation hosted by MOH Talk to explore the challenges posed by thrombophilia and the indispensable training required in the realm of essential phlebology: https://lnkd.in/eJCR9TjZ

One interesting fact I recently learned is the effect of henna on patients with G6PD deficiency! It can cause severe complications including hemolysis. Patients with G6PD deficiency have a deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, which is essential for protecting red blood cells from damage. This deficiency makes them susceptible to oxidative stress, which can lead to the destruction of red blood cells. Certain chemicals, such as those found in henna, can trigger this oxidative stress, leading to hemolysis. Link to a Case Report and Literature Review on its effects, especially on neonates: https://lnkd.in/eHqFM7rf Additionally, I have included a previous LinkedIn article I discussed G6PD deficiency and methods for measuring it in the laboratory👍🏻: https://lnkd.in/e_FBq5qE

Every March 18 marks National Protect Liver Day in China, the theme of this year calls for “Early prevention and screening to keep you away from #liver cirrhosis”. Any kind of #hepatitis that develops for a long time will cause serious damage to human health and can even present a threat to life. In response to the action of guarding human health and caring for hepatitis patients, #KHB and #Tianlong has developed overall solutions for the accurate detection of #HBV, and also assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis diseases including #HCV, #HAV and #HEV. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) stands as one of the most prevalent gynecological conditions affecting women worldwide, characterized by an imbalance in the vaginal microbiota. While healthcare experts have traditionally employed established treatments, exploring alternative options remains an area of interest in the medical community. Can Nitrofurantoin treat BV? This article discusses using Nitrofurantoin for BV treatment, differences between yeast infections and BV, expected drug interactions, and more. https://lnkd.in/ds8-gePv

Recently published in antibiotics Céline Lardenoije Senna van Riel Lindsey Peters, Niels Cremers. The prevalence of bacterial vaginosis (BV) among women of reproductive age is 29%. The multifactorial nature of BV’s pathogenesis complicates its treatment. Current antibiotic therapy exhibits a recurrence rate of about 60% within a year. Medical-grade honey (MGH), known for its antimicrobial and wound healing properties in wound care, emerges as a potential novel therapy for BV. Can MGH Create a Paradigm Shift in the Treatment of BV?

From Medical grade honey MGG for bacterial vaginosis to Probiotics and fecal microbiota transplant for recurrent urinary tract infections, the understanding of common gynecological diseases is improving. Consider this microbiome is integral body system, 2kg per body weight and 75 trillions organisms living in peace within you. That is more than human cells of 36 trillion. Shall we rethink our antibiotics approach to common gynecological infections, or shall we investigate the role of microbiome disturbance in relation to them?
