As many of you know, Denver Health will be asking voters to approve a nominal .34% sales tax increase in November – that’s only 3.4 cents for every $10. The initiative is called Healing Denver. Polling has been extremely favorable, as has the response from every call I make, every meeting I attend, every event where I speak. This is what I hear every day: I had no idea that Denver Health provides free counseling and medical services to DPS students! I had no idea that Denver Health trains paramedics and oversees all the ambulances for the city and county of Denver! I had no idea that Denver Health has 1.3 million patient visits. I had no idea that… In the nearly two years since I’ve been the CEO of Denver Health, I have seen firsthand the impact that Denver Health makes on our patients, their families, and our community. But we have a funding challenge: while other safety net hospitals around the country receive an average of 11% of their budget from their local municipalities, Denver only funds approximately 2% of our budget, despite our role in dealing with many significant issues in our community--from homelessness to behavioral health to caring for over 16,000 DPS students. Telling the story of Denver Health will require robust educational efforts, marketing/media support and a dedicated campaign team to manage all the critical components. We have raised significant money but could use your help. You can contribute to Healing Denver, either online at HealingDenver.org, or by check made out to “Healing Denver” and mailed to 300 Center Drive, Suite G #362, Superior, CO 80027. Please know that this is a very personal ask since Colorado law prohibits the use of any Denver Health money, time or resources in support of the campaign. May I count on you to support Denver Health via the Healing Denver campaign? And may I count on you to share this post with your network? Please help us to secure a more sustainable source of funding for Denver Health. We all benefit from a healthier community. #healingdenver #denver #healthierdenver #denvercommunity

Recently, Nonprofit Quarterly highlighted the impact worker shortages in community health centers are having on access to care for vulnerable populations. These shortages can undermine the quality of services and leave underserved communities without crucial healthcare support. At Activate Care, we help alleviate the strain on CHCs by strengthening care coordination and addressing social needs. What are some of the ways your organization ensures patients receive the comprehensive care they deserve? #communityhealthworkers #accesstocare #ActivateCare #NonProfitNews https://hubs.la/Q02QYsNy0

I've just arrived at the NHS Confederation Expo venue in Manchester to see our stand for the first time. Sticking out among the glossy medtech companies, ours is an installation that's been co-produced with colleagues from our lived experience programme, bringing an uncomfortable truth to the fore. In Pathway, we want to bring about an end to the practice of discharging people facing homelessness from hospital to the street. It's something we feel really strongly about from our work in hospitals, helping specialist teams supporting patients facing homelessness. It doesn't take a background in inclusion health, though, to imagine the brutality and misery of coming out of hospital, only to be forced to find somewhere to sleep outside for the night. All any of us want when we're poorly is a warm bed and a safe place to recover. But these basic comforts are denied to more than 4,000 people each year, according to an FOI exercise earlier this year. The pressures on the NHS are obviously enormous, and no one denies the need to make best use of hospital beds. But forcing people onto the streets from hospital is not only bad for people themselves, but also for the NHS. It is virtually impossible to recover from ill health on the street, meaning people are likely to return to hospital, thus beginning a cycle of readmissions. There is an answer to all of this. Specialist step-down accommodation, sometimes called intermediate care, is backed by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence for people facing homelessness. It provides a safe, supportive place to recover from illness, while giving patients more time to find long-term accommodation. It reduces rough sleeping and saves the NHS money. Despite the evidence, these services are too few and far between, so discharges to the street are still a reality for many. Pathway is shining a light on this at NHS Confed Expo tomorrow and Thursday, with an immersive installation that shows the brutal truth of this experience. It's been an enormous privilege to see colleagues Emily and Mandy, along with Jamesy and Pete, members of our lived experience programme, bring this to life. What started life as a campaigning idea is now a thoughtful installation, brimming with creativity and personal stories. There is more to say about the co-production of the installation, and I hope Pete and Jamesy will tell that story soon. For now, this is a departure for Pathway, stepping out of our comfort zone and into a more challenging space, and just in time for a General Election. It That might sometimes feel scary, but people spending the night on the streets tonight, recovering from hospital treatment, deserve nothing less. Pathway - Homeless and Inclusion Health Emily Page
