What is holistic wellness to you? I recently had a conversation with a colleague about this. The word “holistic" tends to get thrown around a lot, but it's never truly defined. To me, Wel at Humana is the true definition of "holistic wellness." We've adopted Exos' approach and encourage individuals to think of well-being in four main pillars. It's fine-tuning not only your physical health through movement, but it's dialing in on nutrition, channeling a growth mindset, and always prioritizing recovery. For peak performance – whether you're a professional athlete, corporate executive, or stay-at-home parent – you must maintain balance in all four areas. Striving for that balance is when we reach holistic wellness.

I attended an event last week at which a panelist suggested that we should be putting our children in difficult situations, in order to teach them persistence and how to handle disappointment. As a new dad, I loved this, because we seem to have changed how we deal with children, telling them that they're all winners and that they can do no wrong. For example, my old prep school has ditched a long-standing system of 'stars' that were an indication of good (red stars) or naughty (blue stars) behaviour. If you got three blue stars in a week, you got detention ... but we can't say the 'n' word any more, can we? The result is that kids no longer have the resilience to cope with challenges and I read the news earlier this year that parkrun was removing its records with dread, because this liberal thinking is permeating wider society. (And don't get me started on the fact that trans athletes held women's records before they were removed.) I get the participation aspect, I really do – I am someone that truly understands the importance of exercise for mental fitness – and the fact that #parkrun has 9 million participants over 2,000 events is incredible ... BUT I also want to know how I'm faring against people of a similar age and ability. I want to push and better myself. You can argue that ANY mass participation (the clue being in the word 'participation') event, from the Bath Half Marathon to the London Marathon, is about taking part, yet they still publish their results and people look at them with pride amongst all the other runners. The follow up to this appears to be parkrun doubling down (link in comments below), despite calls to reinstate the records, which smacks of a too soft approach that isn't serving a broader message that we should be challenging ourselves. Plus I can't get on board with the 'my way or the high way' attitude of the founder in seemingly saying, 'If you don't like it, tough.' But there will of course be those who disagree and I look forward to a healthy debate on the subject ...

This update will allow DOTI to build more comfortable and connected bikeways and develop a program to upgrade Denver’s existing bikeways over time. It’s important that we hear from you about your experience biking and rolling in Denver so that we can craft an updated, visionary network together with the community. THE BIG HOLE IN THE ROYALS NEW BALLPARK AND CHIEFS RENOVATION PLANS THAT WILL RUIN DOWNTOWN, WON’T IMPROVE ARROWHEAD AND WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE NO APRIL 2 I love the Chiefs, Royals and the idea of a downtown ballpark. However, the big HOLE in their plan is TRANSPORTATION. The street car, buses and ride-share aren’t going to solve the problem. I’ve given 10K Uber/Lyft rides, but like other experienced drivers, I REFUSE to do any more Arrowhead rides because it’s a 1-2 hour miserable experience to only get riders within 1-2 miles of the stadium before a long walk. On 10/29/23, Beyoncé waited nearly 3 hours to go on stage so fans stuck in traffic could arrive. Traffic for Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks and other concerts was similarly bad as those fans are not tailgaters, largely tourists and don’t understand the Arrowhead traffic nightmare. The East Crossroads-P&L District is quickly becoming the next traffic nightmare due to events most weekends on top of the regular going out crowd. The areas consists of one or two lane roads, many one-way, numerous stop lights, the street car jamming up Main St and horrible highway egress-ingress, so if you add another 40K ballpark fans and personnel into that area, it will push traffic beyond the breaking point — and not just for 9-15 Chiefs games plus concerts, but for at least 81 Royals games. This would create a similar problem as the NFL Draft that attracted lots of tourists and traffic but a steep decline for local businesses — from March to October. What’s going to happen when people can’t easily, quickly and affordably live, work and get around?… “Nobody Goes There Anymore, It’s Too Crowded.” Yogi Berra SOLUTIONS RE: DOWNTOWN BALLPARK — Put it in the East Village, which was the original first choice. There are far less businesses and traffic is much lighter east of Oak St, but it’s still close enough to where fans could safely walk to/from P&L before/after a game passing nearby KCPD HQ for public safety. There would be far less impact and displacement. I’d also like to see plans to expand/improve roads and traffic, especially on Truman and Walnut, add traffic light sensors, restrict jaywalking and stop closing Grand St and other nearby roads. Also, if you’re going to spend billions, you might as well have a great view of the skyline, like PNC Park or Busch Stadium. RE: ARROWHEAD — It should be like Kansas Speedway with their great egress-ingress. The catalyst for that area was just two race weekends per year, so if they can offer sports, entertainment, hotels, restaurants and shopping all at 435/70 on the KS side, the same can be done at 435/70 on the MO side. Those are plans I can really get behind. Also, selfishly, my startup, https://Arrive.mobi, is building an app based ride service providing quick, reliable and unlimited rides for $29/week. However, to make that work, we need moderate traffic to operate efficiently, so an East Crossroads Ballpark would not help our cause.

People, lets have a look. I spent a super afternoon on the 30th December at the Leicester Riders photographing people. Leicester Riders are the longest established professional basket ball team in the country, that is heritage and experience so for a very long time, people have been turning up and paying to watch. You see, that connection right there, people will pay to watch so they are both emotionally and financially invested. Why? Many people like sport, many watch, many pay to watch because there is that sense of belonging to something bigger, being part of a team, supporting a team because when they win, everyone feels better. Leicester Riders have many supporters and many companies who sponsor at various levels, all of which supports the team to be able to be the best it can. Robert Paternostro has been head coach for 15 years, that is a huge investment by him, true dedication and this also generates a feeling of family because he has dedicated himself to the team, so others feel they can do the same, Rob is a great example of team work. I photographed Miryne Thomas as he gave a post match debrief to the sponsors, a lovely way of saying thank you and he is a delight to listen to, so enthusiastic! People love recognition and being part of something that makes them feel good. Let’s talk about the practicalities of changing into a sports bra if you’re a younger girl. Ok, it’s easy if let’s say you’re at a leisure centre with separate cubicles, but what about the older venues? For example school changing rooms, or old locker rooms? Changing into a sports bra in a communal space for a self-concious girl getting used to her new sports bra isn’t ideal, or comfortable. Apart from knowing that she needs to get her sports bra on before the game, but does she have somewhere comfortable to change into it? This is where the magic of a good design sports bra comes in. What is she has a sports bra that she could wear all day on a day she has PE? A bra that has comfortable fabric, and is adjustable so she can pop it on first thing in the morning before she goes to school. This could be a game changer and help encourage girls to wear a sports bra for PE, and one less barrier to face before playing sport.
