All aboard … almost! We supported NCDOT at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Durant Road Grade Separation project—the first project to go to construction as part of the Raleigh to Richmond (R2R) Innovating Rail Program. This project begins the process of improving safety along the corridor by separating roadway traffic from trains, paving the way for the future rail improvements envisioned along the S-Line corridor. Landmark highways such as NH-150C have a unique set of elements that need to be incorporated in the planning process to ensure maximum efficiency of the roadway. One such challenge was to reduce conflicting movement of vehicles by finding a way around intersections. It was decided to construct two double trumpet interchanges that allowed for vehicle crossing without putting a pause to vehicle flow. The two trumpets at chainage KM 187+234 and at KM 202+059 use grade separation to have a continued crossing above the main highway allowing for free flow of traffic on both routes. The BVEPL team looks forward to the implementation of numerous such features in future projects! Article from railbusinessdaily.com “A major milestone has been hit as Network Rail teams have successfully electrified the line between Kettering and Wigston, allowing for greener and quieter journeys along the Midland Main Line in the future." Simon Skinner C.Eng FIET FPWI, Engineering Director for SPL Powerlines said: “A major milestone was completed over the weekend, extending the overhead wires to Wigston, just shy of Leicester Station. New overhead line equipment has been installed over a 36km stretch of the Midland Main Line allowing passengers to benefit from greener journeys, on quieter trains in the future. This is SPL Powerlines’ second major commissioning on the Midland Main Line in 4 years, both on time and under budget, accounting for a total distance of overhead wires nearing 300km.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ddp5U-jW #ElectrifyingTransitions #rail #railelectrification SPL POWERLINES UK

THE FEDERAL BRIDGE CORPORATION LTD. ANNOUNCES THE START OF THE SECOND BLUE WATER BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT POINT EDWARD, March 28, 2024 – The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (The FBCL) is announcing the Second Blue Water Bridge (SBWB) rehabilitation project, set to start on May 29, 2024. In keeping with our continuous investment in stewardship, for the first time in over two decades, the SBWB will be closed, while the First Blue Water Bridge (FBWB) will operate with bidirectional traffic to maintain essential operations for commerce and commuters. The vital rehabilitation work, much of which will occur beneath the bridge, is key to ensuring our high standards of safety and efficiency. By actively managing disruptions, including extending work hours into nights and weekends, we aim to manage the project’s timeline effectively. Our joint efforts with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) are vital, enabling the execution of crucial maintenance activities on both sides of the border with considered measures to manage traffic flow. Key Highlights of the Rehabilitation Project: Bidirectional Traffic: The FBWB will operate bidirectionally, sustaining traffic flow in both directions, while the SBWB undergoes rehabilitation. Wide Load Restrictions: To ensure safe navigation through the construction zone, loads will be limited to less than 3m (10 feet) in width. Uninterrupted Toll Service: Toll booth operations will continue to provide uninterrupted service. #bluewaterbridge #Sarnia #exports #imports #infrastructure https://lnkd.in/dwWrAJFZ

supply meets demand
“When the train last ran in 1975 it was called the North Coast Hiawatha. It would basically follow I-90 and I-94 down along that part of North Dakota,” said Marc Magliari, a spokesman for Amtrak in Chicago. “But it has no effect on whether you still have service,” Magliari said, referring to the Empire Builder’s route. “Congress is determined that our current route network cannot be changed, nor do we have the desire to. This is all potentially additional service up in the northern tier states.” #BigSkyCountry #AllAboardMontana #EmpireBuilder #BigSkyRail #publictransportation #traintravel #Railway https://ow.ly/oUpV50QjnXE

As Chair of #NCTD, I’m excited to share that the North County Transit District has been awarded a $10.2 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (aka: RAISE) program. This dedicated funding will be used to obtain environmental clearance and complete preliminary engineering for the east segment of the SPRINTER Corridor Service Improvement Project. The Project will construct 9.5 miles of double track along NCTD’s SPRINTER hybrid rail corridor which connects the cities of Escondido and San Marcos. This is a major milestone in the District’s effort to improve SPRINTER service frequency from 30-minutes to 15-minutes. Once completed, this project will add to the convenience of taking transit in North County by improving access to major regional employment centers, educational institutions, health care providers and other essential destinations. Improved service frequency encourages more people to get out of their cars and on to transit which will in turn improve air quality and reduce congestion on adjacent roadways. It’s a win-win. In addition to supporting #Sprinter hybrid passenger rail service, the SPRINTER Corridor also supports BNSF freight services. Double tracking will enable freight services to increase frequencies, enhancing the movement of goods and supporting an efficient supply chain in southern California. This grant from the U.S. DOT builds upon funding the District has already received from Congressman Mike Levin and the FTA to modernize SPRINTER signal infrastructure. This combination of signal modernization and double tracking, will enhance public transit in North San Diego County, strengthen our region’s transportation infrastructure and economy and improve our air quality. Quite a package! #GoNCTD #PublicTransit
