Who doesn’t love a roadmap? I am not aware of any International Roadmap Awards, but if they did exist, I think the UK’s Automotive Council would be hot favourites… As a representative of the Fleet and Mobility Services industry I’ve been lucky enough to provide feedback on a number of Auto Council roadmaps over the years. I am always so impressed with the way this coalition of talented engineers (mostly) and policymakers captures the high-level outlook for auto technology, regulation, policy and business models. I love feeling like the stupidest person in the room! These roadmaps play such an important role in building consensus on a future vision for the automotive sector and the challenges and opportunities it presents. Now that the dust has settled somewhat post-Covid, it is time to update them. I was privileged to participate in the Auto Council’s Future Texhnology Group last week. The industry faces lots of challenges, and it is harder than ever to ‘roadmap’ the future in these uncertain times. But if anyone can do it, the Auto Council can. Watch this space. Did EVs exist even in the 20th century? We carried out a story on EVs this week, as part of our ‘Tech This Week’ series. You can take a look here https://shorturl.at/uwLR5 I found this interesting innovation way back from 1967, related to electric cars, showing the potential future of EVs back then. This is a prototype of a concept car called ‘StaRRcar’- self transport Road & Rail Car. The concept never took off as it was way ahead of its times in 60s. However, it is an interesting look at the early concepts of EVs and self-driving tech. Isn't it?

”SEEL is important for CEVT on many levels, one being to be part of the acceleration into more sustainable mobility, but also the fact that we´re a part of ZEEKR now, a pure BEV vehicle (Battery electric vehicle). So, we need to do all this testing here, and we have already started. But also, the L4 vehicle we have together with Waymo at Google, it’s a self-driving vehicle.” said Ulrika Toftevik ♦️, Acting CEO and CFO at CEVT at the Grand Opening of SEEL on September 1. SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory is a top modern testing facility that enables groundbreaking research and development for the next generation of electrified transports. By fostering synergies between research and industry, SEEL is on a mission to accelerate the transformation towards an electrified and fossil-free transportation landscape. Sven Nitsche, BMW Group chaired a panel titled “Vision Zero - What will a realistic implementation look like?" which featured Pierre-Olivier Millette of European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), Cecilia Sunnevång of Autoliv, Kenneth Svensson of Trafikverket Swedish Transport Administration, and Michiel van Ratingen of Euro NCAP, For Safer Cars. "Vision Zero. Is a collaborative effort that you cannot do alone," said Michiel. Picking up on this, Nitsche asked each panellist what they expect of the other panellists’ organisations to facilitate Vision Zero. 🔉 Put the human at the centre of safety strategy, said Cecilia. 🔉 Safety is part of our 2030 Agenda, and it's essential for all parties to treat safety as part of sustainability, said Kenneth. 🔉 Focus on priorities, with narrower and deeper goals, said Pierre. And adopt a holistic approach that looks beyond the vehicle, to include infrastructure and ITS. 🔉 Simple, said Michiel: continue to innovate, and never accept the status quo. #TMCE #ISCE #visionzero #carbonneutral #digitalisation #FISITA #industrydisruption #futureofmobility #automotive #STA #barcelona #spain #climatechange #intelligentsafety

1moThat’s great. How about the customer and standing behind your vehicles Pablo Di Si? My daughter’s Tiguan has been sitting at Archer VW in Houston for 6 months waiting for an alternator. I am beyond frustrated and blowing up social media until the vehicle has been repaired and sold. Never, will I buy a VW again. @pablodisi
