Through their independent perspective and expertise, #HorizontalPartners can help to identify potential challenges or gaps in the project implementation and suggest corrective actions to address them. An essential contribution to enhancing the quality, effectiveness, and sustainability of our beloved project. The European Cyclists' Federation is focused on 10 measures in 6 different cities within UPPER Project EU These consist of creating multimodal hubs where active modes and public transport meet, developing incentive packages to support multimodality, enabling public transport in peri-urban areas, campaigning for sustainable modes of transport (including public transport and active modes) and, finally, enhancing multimodal interconnections and integration. This time they put Rome in the spotlight with a fine piece written by ECF's Holger Haubold assisted by Agenzia Roma servizi per la Mobilita' Srl, Roma Capitale, and Eurocities Here is the full article 🚲 https://lnkd.in/dKuwkpsp CIVITAS Initiative NetZeroCitiesEU Yannick Bousse CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency Eugenio Patanè Chiara Di Majo Francesco Iacorossi #UPPERProjectEU

Today our Chair, Katherine Grainger, began her journey to #Paris2024. She joined Sport England's Chair, Chris Boardman CBE, as part of #PedalForParis which aims to highlight inspirational and innovative organisations in England that are working to become environmentally sustainable 💚🚲 In taking part in the campaign Katherine Grainger said, "The effects of climate change are being felt globally and locally, from facilities, tracks, and pitches being flooded to extreme heat impacting training camps and competitions. "We must use the voice, influence and platform of high-performance sport to advocate for action on environmental sustainability and inspire others to act. “By working together, we can all help to protect the planet, allowing future generations to enjoy the benefits of sport." In recognition of the impact of climate change on Olympic and Paralympic sport and athletes last year, we launched our Environmental Sustainability Strategy which includes a goal for high-performance sport to have a net positive impact on the environment by 2040; whilst also reducing the negative environmental impact of our own activities and operations to achieve net zero by 2030. Read more about how we're committed to protecting the environment for the Team Of Tomorrow, ensuring that the next generation can continue to deliver more extraordinary sporting moments: https://lnkd.in/en7aQnpT
Day five of Pedal for Paris draws to a close! 💚 🚲 Chris Boardman was joined by Steve Backshall and UK Sport's Dame Katherine Grainger. Up for discussion was how sport must use its unique platform and lead the change as our changing climate is already impacting our opportunities, motivation, and ability to be active. #SportEngland | #PedalForParis

Brussels' #GoodMove plan two years since its implementation proves it’s delivering its promises according to POLITICO Europe. 🚲 Cycling is up 20% 📈 🚙 The number of cars is down by 20% 📉 🍃NO2 levels have dropped by up to 35% at intersections across the city 📉 As for the fears that the plan would only push traffic outside the city centre to other neighbourhoods? A recent report shows that traffic and travel time on the ring around the centre has remained virtually the same. This pilot in Aarhus confirms that there is a huge potential of carpooling for commuting to work, as another option for travelling to industrial areas and, above all, as an alternative to unaccompanied private car journeys. Although this formula is already widespread elsewhere, especially in France, here, in the south of Europe, it has yet to take off, although the pilot we are developing in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital city of the Basque Country, is working also quite well. 👉https://lnkd.in/dRdteFy5

A groundbreaking study explores the experiences of delivery cyclists in Edinburgh and Glasgow, shedding light on the unique challenges they face on urban roads. The report, funded by Transport Scotland, reveals that cyclists often navigate poorly-maintained streets, encounter blocked cycle lanes, and face safety concerns due to close-passing vehicles. As delivery cycling becomes a more prominent and sustainable mode of transport, the insights gathered highlight the need for improved infrastructure to support these vital workers. #UrbanCycling #SustainableDelivery #TransportScotland #CyclingSafety #UrbanInfrastructure

Cycling is one of the most climate-friendly modes of transportation. It therefore should play a crucial part in European and national climate policies, in particular since the transport sector is very much lagging behind other sectors in decarbonising. With the draft National and Energy Climate Plans, EU Member States have been putting their 2030 reform plans to the European Commission. Our analysis shows that, across the board, EU Member States still fall short on leveraging the potential of cycling. But it's a mixed bag. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e97NiJ8H
