Engineering takes innovative, analytical and problem-solving capabilities. To do this work, you’ve got to be determined, yet flexible; detail-oriented, yet big-pictured; and above all, wicked smart. That is why we’re celebrating the women behind this historically male-dominated career path – the ones showing there’s room for everyone at the table to roll up their sleeves, sharpen their pencils and help make our built environment a reality. For International Women in Engineering Day, Sunday, June 23, we celebrate them, us and all who will be; because ‘engineer’ translates to ‘doer’ – and we’ve got the ladies to prove that. #DCIEngineers #INWED25 #Engineering #DCIisMe #StructuralEngineering #StructuralEngineers #WomenInEngineering

On June 23rd, we celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of women in engineering. As we honour these pioneers, I want to share some inspiring thoughts that keep motivating me on my journey: - Independence and Self-Worth: Never compromise your independence and self-worth for acceptance or appreciation from those you do not admire. Stand firm in your values and beliefs. - Universal Challenges: Remember, it isn't easy for anyone, even for those who seem to have it all naturally. Great results come from massive commitment and dedication. There is no such thing as being naturally skilled; it all comes down to practice and perseverance. - Seek Growth, Not Tolerance: Don’t stay in places where you are simply tolerated. Seek out challenges that push you to grow at your own pace and fuel your curiosity. It's not personal—novelty scares all of us by evolution. - Focus on Value and Empathy: Keep taking the unpaved ways and support others you cross along the journey. Value prevails over racism and discrimination. If you help others benefit from your unique skills, you will no longer be seen as a threat but as an asset. - Knowledge is Freedom: The only way to real freedom is through knowledge. Knowledge is the only wealth that doesn’t suffer from inflation and cannot be taken away from you. Let’s continue to support and uplift each other in this journey. Here’s to the women who engineer the future! #WomenInEngineering #KnowledgeIsPower #EngineeringExcellence

Human-Centred Transformational People Leader | Employee Experience & Change Specialist | Building Inclusive, High Performing Values-Driven Workplaces | Executive Coach | Open to Full-Time, Part-Time, Perm & Interim work
Yesterday, I had the privilege of giving the keynote and attending an event hosted by Women Powering Smart Energy and DLA Piper Young Women Engineers - Future leaders in renewable energy & infrastructure. The panel included recent engineering graduates and those with significant experience. The discussion highlighted the progress made in the field- 16% of engineering graduates in 2021 were female, compared to 10% in 2010. However, there is still a way to go to build the pipeline for girls to choose engineering and retain women in the workforce. The discussion also revealed the challenges women in engineering face. Some panel members shared stories of having to prove themselves because of their gender, while others recounted the lack of appropriate PPE. Despite these challenges, the panel agreed to a call to action to create a culture where women feel they belong in engineering. Each member has committed to do one small thing, such as sharing their experiences and improving the visibility and perception of the profession in their schools. Overall, it was an insightful and inspiring event, and I'm honored to have been a part of it. #WomenInEngineering #RenewableEnergy #SmartEnergy #DiversityAndInclusion

For International Women in Engineering Day, we asked Johanie Botha, Project Engineer at EPEC Group what the most fulfilling thing about her work as an engineer is. June 23rd marked the 11th International Women in Engineering Day #INWED. Did you know, that women make up only 13% of the engineering workforce in Australia, according to the "Women in Engineering Report, June 2022" by Engineers Australia? Increasing the percentage of women in engineering teams brings diverse perspectives, creativity, and innovation — all crucial to driving progress and solving complex challenges. We're striving to ensure engineering careers are an attractive choice for all and recognise this as crucial to achieving sustainable progress towards net zero. 💪🌏 #INWED2024 #WomenInEngineering #STEMCareers
