Brain donation is not as simple as becoming an organ donor. From enrollment to collection, it’s a delicate and complex process. But, the impact on neuroscience can be profound with some brains still being studied 30+ years after donation. Our grant funding raised last year has allowed us to further develop research in various areas including Traumatic Bran Injuries and concussions. Following a concussion, the timeline of symptom recovery varies, ranging from a few weeks to those with persistent symptoms years following the initial insult. There are currently no objective measures to identify those at risk of a prolonged recovery trajectory, which is crucial to facilitate early intervention and targeted treatment. This project, led by A/Prof Frances Corrigan, will utilise our clinically relevant pre-clinical model of concussion to investigate an array of promising biomarkers to determine which can predict outcome following concussion. Our grant funding raised last year has allowed us to further develop research and acquire advanced equipment to study brain tumours. GD2 shows promise as a marker for CAR T cell immunotherapy in brain tumours. We've played a role in establishing two clinical trials using GD2-targeting CAR T cell treatments for glioblastoma in adults and diffuse midline glioma in children. Our pre-clinical research, led by Dr Manjun Li, MD PhD, indicates that increasing GD2 levels in the tumour could enhance the effectiveness of this therapy. This proposal explores methods to achieve this enhancement, potentially improving GD2-targeting CAR T cell treatments for glioblastoma. Positive results could also benefit the treatment of diffuse midline glioma and certain medulloblastomas in children. We're thrilled to share a progress update on Project Liam at Children's Hospital Los Angeles! 🌟 Brain tumors are a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children. Of all the pediatric brain tumors, high-grade gliomas (HGG), like Glioblastoma, are the toughest to treat! For those new to our fifth fully-funded research project that launched this year, Project Liam is named after 2-year-old Liam Singh Gill, who bravely fought Glioblastoma. Project Liam will investigate using immunotherapy as an alternative to conventional treatments. 🔬 Our partners are re-enrolling eligible patients, examining response data from the initial five enrolled patients and conducting analyses of the associated biological correlates. All this progress is made possible thanks to your generosity! Stay tuned for more insights and browse our projects, and consider donating to our research-funding mission by visiting our website ➡️ www.gbmresearch.org #glioblastoma #braincancer #glioblastomamultiforme #braintumor #braincancerawareness #glioma #braintumorawareness #neurooncology #neurosurgery #neurosurgeon #neurosurgeons #medicine #cancercharity #gbm4 #gbm #cancer #instascience #gbmcommunity #noonefightsalone #neurological

Wear A Hat Day in Support of Brain Tumour Research The month of March is all about raising awareness of brain tumours, something that hits close to home for me. I had a scare, but now I’m in the clear. My tumour has remained stable for 10 years now. Recently, I noticed some changes in my eyesight, balance, and hearing which always brings back the reality of how fragile life is. On social media, I’ve connected with so many brave souls battling brain cancer. It’s inspiring to see their courage, but also heartbreaking when some don’t make it. That’s why on March 28th, my team #TeamConnell and I are joining in on Wear A Hat Day, an event by Brain Tumour Research. We’re putting on hats to raise awareness and funds for research, hoping for a breakthrough that could help everyone fighting this disease. It’s shocking to think that every two hours, someone in England gets the devastating news of a brain tumour diagnosis. And survival rates are way lower compared to other cancers, with only 12% making it past five years after diagnosis. This highlights the urgent need for more research and funding. What’s even more tragic is that brain tumours affect more children and young adults under 40 than any other cancer. That’s why events like Wear A Hat Day are so important – they give us hope and a chance to make a difference. Let’s keep spreading awareness and supporting each other in this fight. Remember to wear a hat! And tag Brain Tumour Research when you do 🙏 it’s not just about raising awareness it’s also about raising funds. So, let’s dig deep this Wear A Hat Day and help bring hope to others. #WearAHatDay #BrainTumourResearch #BrainTumourAwareness #HelpLisa2HelpOthers #Repost4Hope https://lnkd.in/ei7uYe3V

Gotta Love Academia and Top Journals: They simply publish fabricated data in top journals. Trust The Science https://lnkd.in/erS5Wh4s Nellie Bowles from the Free Press: "Am I so naive for being shocked by all this fraud? .... cancer research? I need them to be odd-looking but trustworthy. Knowing that the Dana-Farber leaders just copy and paste fake results in their papers? Even my dumb eyes, looking at David’s blog, can see that the blots are the same blot. And I studied literature, people. Like, kids are dying of cancer. You’re pocketing the money raised by their families to research it—at least put some effort into your fake blots. Anyway, send these people to jail".
