WoodWorks has been partnering with partners in Maui to advance the use of #masstimber across Hawaii, offering a sustainable, fire-resistant, and fast-to-construct building solution. This effort includes training local workers, designing Hawaii’s first mass timber home on Kauai, and incorporating mass timber into plans for rebuilding Lahaina homes after the wildfires. With support from the USDA Forest Service, the initiative provides free or reduced-cost design plans and on-site training, aiming to reduce carbon impact, promote resilience, and create opportunities for the next generation of builders in Hawaii. With current trends in the housing market and rising costs of both labor and materials in construction, can we agree that we need a little variation in project delivery methods? At the very least, a dialogue between professionals on how to work together to help projects achieve a desired budget and bring new products to market at a faster pace. We've spent some time researching and understanding a bit more of what modular construction can offer. There appears to be some great opportunities that are happening before our eyes as technology and efficiencies are continually edified. Some of our research has specific applications and others Owner / Developers might find an avenue to continue the discussion on how to improve a project that might serve a middle market demographic. There is a HUGE underserved market that is coming into retirement very soon and solutions are needed that we think modular is poised to help fill.
