Safety First! Lots of good advice in this Extreme Weather Contingency Plan.

An alarming example of the thin string of logistics that the #Caribbean islands are too dependent on. This ship delivered just in time fuel for the local electrical generating plant in Carriacou (Grenada) only hours before hurricane #Beryl struck, to ensure that the island had enough fuel to deliver critical electricity to their customers as they bear out the storm. But Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, along with many other islands in the affected area have abundant geothermal resources that could deliver 100% of the electricity that the islands demand, eliminating the need for this fuel delivery altogether. Politicians talk incessantly about 'sustainability' in their energy goals and objectives. Meanwhile they sit atop this incredible clean energy resource that could deliver all this (and more), but are not doing enough to drive the conversion in a timely way. There is no urgency!

Tropical Storm Debby is causing chaos for travel in the United States, with 2,000 flights canceled and 6,300 delayed. American Airlines and JetBlue are most affected, canceling 17% of their flights. Airlines like American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, and United are offering waivers for flight changes. Passengers can get refunds if their flights are canceled. Cruise itineraries are also affected, with ships changing courses and schedules due to the storm. Safety is a priority, with cruise lines monitoring forecasts. According to the Department of Homeland Security, walking, swimming, or driving through flood waters is never safe when hurricanes strike. If you’re in a flooded area, turn around and find a safe and elevated area. Six inches of fast-moving water can knock a person down, while one foot of moving water is capable of sweeping away vehicles. The #NaplesAirport has installed a new lightning detection system that will provide timely severe weather warnings, replacing an older system that was in use for years. With this system in place, our staff, pilots, and passengers on the airfield will receive instant alerts through a horn and strobe light system when lightning is detected within a 5-mile radius. This will allow them to move to a safe area as soon as possible. Once the threat of lightning has passed, an "all-clear" signal will indicate it is safe to return outdoors.
