Part of Elections Canada's role is to help entities—candidates, parties, associations, nomination/leadership contestants and third parties—understand the political financing rules that apply to them. A better understanding of the rules helps entities comply with the Canada Elections Act. Entities can consult our handbooks or watch short videos to get important information. Entities can also access our free, self-paced training modules. Want to know more? Visit: https://ow.ly/yEi450SZljj

Including South Africa, 17 countries across Africa are expected to hold elections in 2024. 67% of South Africans are eligible to vote in this year’s election, but Afrobarometer surveys from 2021-2023 found that more than half of South Africans weren’t sure where their polling station was in the most recent election. If you want to learn more about why these elections matter for Africa and the world, read our research report on why 2024 is Africa’s ‘Ultimate’ Election Year. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eixB5aMk

Did you know? 🤔 Elections Canada does not determine whether political entities followed the rules in the Canada Elections Act (CEA). That is the role of the Commissioner of Canada Elections (CCE), who is independent from us. While we manage political entities’ registration and financial reporting, it is the CCE who enforces the CEA, ensures it is complied with, and takes action if the rules aren’t followed. We help entities understand and follow the CEA rules, but it is the CCE that can gather all the facts, conduct investigations as needed, and determine if rules were broken. With the European Elections coming up soon it's interesting to see the minimum age to stand as a candidate is different around the member states - ranging from 18-25. My thoughts are - ability and effective delivery for the common good are more important than age, with a caveat of practicality in relation to being able to perform the job (e.g. travel, safety, education etc). What are your thoughts? Most importantly, don't forget to vote if you have a vote! #eu #elections #vote #useyourvote #europeancommission #democracy #euinmyregion Northern and Western Regional Assembly
How young can you be to stand as a candidate in the European elections? Check out this map to see the minimum age required in order to campaign to become a member of the next European Parliament. The minimum age across most EU countries is as low as 18 years old, but it can be as high as 25 years old as observed in Greece and Italy.
