We’re beyond proud of our co-founder Wallace Torres, who was interviewed by NBC News as one of the Hispanic leaders working to improve health care. In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, there’s no better time to spotlight the impact of autoimmune diseases like Lupus on the Hispanic community: The CDC estimates that 16,000 people are diagnosed with Lupus each year. Hispanic and black women are 3x more likely to be diagnosed with Lupus than white women. 45% of women with autoimmune conditions are told “it’s all in their head,” leading to delays in diagnosis and care. Women and people of color deserve better. They deserve to be heard, listened to, and taken seriously by their care providers — and that belief is at the core of everything we do here at WellTheory. At WellTheory, we're proud to join Evvy for the third annual #EqualResearchDay on June 10th. This day is dedicated to promoting inclusive research, sharing our stories, and working to close the gender health gap. We feel this deeply at WellTheory, given that 80% of autoimmune patients are women, yet these conditions tend to be underserved, under-researched, and under-studied. Of the estimated 80-100 autoimmune conditions, women are: -16x more likely to develop Sjogren’s Syndrome -3x more likely to be diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis -2-3x more likely to be diagnosed with Celiac Disease Closing the gender health gap starts with clinical research, and we're grateful to be in good company with other organizations that are dedicated to upleveling the standard of care for other conditions that largely impact women and other minorities.

At WellTheory, we were thrilled that The White House and First Lady Jill Biden announced their $100M investment in women's health initiatives, along with President Joe Biden's $12B proposal. But there is still more to be done. Our co-founder and CEO, Ellen Rudolph, along with fellow founders Joanna Strober and Priya Abani, were featured on Fast Company discussing the additional work that needs to be done in autoimmune care, menopause, and heart health to support women.
