Cook Strait Crossing With the lively commentary we have been enjoying about KiwiRail and Bluebridge what has been coming out is the superiority of service and facilities on the Bluebridge! Now, let me throw this idea out there and see where the proceeding discussion takes us? When we take the known facts and put them on the table surely we can come up with a solution. The Cook Strait is one of the roughest and most unpredictable passages in the world. New Zealand needs this crossing to survive. Thousands of people and thousands of tons of freight cross every day. There are 2 companies currently operating ships on this crossing, one a private company, the other a govt entity. Only 1 of these entities is operating with no problems and is widely accepted as the better option. Why not increase the capacity of this company and let it be the only Cook Strait Service. Why do we need 2 services competing when the risks to human life are so high?
