This week’s #PhotogenicFriday isn’t a photo 📷 at all! This week is EXTRA special as we take you to #California for #VideogenicFriday 📹 This year marks the 20th anniversary of the full energization of WAPA’s “Path 15” transmission line. Born from the Golden State’s energy crisis in the 90s, Path 15 was the evolution of a nearly 100-mile power transmission expansion, to include upgrade contracts and other projects in conjunction with Pacific Gas & Electric. Through partnerships with private entities, WAPA facilitated the construction of Path 15, a project that would go on to be completed both ahead of schedule, and under budget. The first shovels entered the ground in the Fall of 2003and nearly a year later, grid operators energized the Path 15 expansion line for the first time. Check out more on Path 15 and its legacy below 👇 #PhotogenicFridays #Electric #Infrastructure #Hydropower #CleanEnergy

It was great to meet with Derek Stenclik and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) along with all the NERC stakeholders in person (and virtually) to discuss their important work on interregional transmission. A major takeaway I got from the diverse group of stakeholders in attendance was that there is an industry desire for clear and actionable recommendations on how transfer capability between regions can deliver on reliability, resilience, and security needs and a desire to quantify where more capability may be needed. This was a great reminder that everyone is committed to a safe and reliable power system and that we can gather together for constructive discussions on ensuring that commitment is achievable.
A little late posting this one, but Ryan Deyoe and I got a chance to meet in-person last week and meet with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Interregional Transmission Capability Study advisory group to give a status update. It was great to meet with such a broad group of stakeholders and talk about one of my favorite topic - interregional transmission!! When you think reliability, reslience, and secuirty, there's no better way than an interconnected power grid! #interregionaltransmission #transmission #powergrid Telos Energy

It was great to kick off the week discussing the clean energy future at the Current Issues 2024 Conference hosted by New Mexico State University’s Center for Public Utilities Advisory Council. We discussed some of the challenges and opportunities the industry faces to meet growing electricity demand. We also explored what’s needed to ensure grid reliability, affordability and the role of new technologies, such as reconductoring, to enhance the efficiency of existing transmission infrastructure. A big thanks goes to NARUC President and North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak for moderating and Nathan Hanson, Thomas Meissner and Freeman Shaheen for their contributions to this important and timely discussion. #CleanEnergy #Innovation #energy #electricity

American Conventional Energy Advocate & Energy Consultant, Specializing in Coal Combustion and Power Generation
This is an election year. It is my hope that non-energy trained Americans will read documents like this before they vote in November. America’s “Greatest Machine Ever Built” is being sabotaged by the EPA and other alphabet soup Bureaucratic agencies. This is serious. #climatepolicy #Energypolicy #electricitygeneration #Coalpower #gaspower #nuclearpower #Energysobriety
Late last week, MISO released an update of “MISO’s Response to the Reliability Imperative.” The 31-page report includes strong language about the challenges MISO faces because of the grid transition. It warns that “the transition that is underway to get to a decarbonized end state is posing material, adverse challenges to electric reliability” and that “many dispatchable resources that provide critical reliability attributes are retiring prematurely due to environmental regulations and clean-energy policies.” The MISO report adds to the increasingly dire warnings from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, other grid operators, FERC commissioners, state utility commissioners and others.
