People often ask me, “what do you actually do as a Head of Operations?” 🤔 Not too long ago, my team gave me some heart-warming feedback that probably explains the role better than I ever could: ▶ "Her work behind the scenes has really laid an invaluable organisational foundation for operating the whole company." ▶ "Kelli is syncronizing processes at Woola and trying to keep the whole team moving to the targets." ▶ "Kelli just came to Woola and organised everything like Tinkerbell. She put up clear systems on how to track different projects, the FSC certification process, helped in production, just everywhere." Needless to say, I’m really humbled by the feedback and may have shed some happy-tears. 😊 As the first-ever Head of Operations at @Woola, I had the chance of establishing and defining this role from the ground up. My main goal when joining Woola was to coordinate projects between sales, product development and production. Since then, I’ve also made sure we have SOPs in palce, managed the upkeep of different certifications and most recently, kicked off Woola’s lifecycle assessment and started on our sustainability strategy. That's what we're doing for the next incentive in Emilia Romagna. We’re taking the group to see the best Italian cheese factory. A visit to the Parmigiano Reggiano factory is an excellent example of maintaining excellence.  It shows top performance while changing and adapting to conditions.  For example, this cheese factory decided to convert to organic production to give better living conditions to the cows, even though it meant sacrificing some of its output. Quality over quantity, just like in the ideal workspace! This is the message managers and employees will take home with them from this activity. I’m a proud Australian and passionate about the food and beverage industry. It has supported me and my family for many years. So it’s stories like Norco Co-operative Limited's Lismore ice cream factory rebuild that remind me of the power of resilience and the importance of strong leadership. Just over 18 months ago, the heritage-listed Lismore factory, a cornerstone of Norco - one of Australia's oldest dairy companies, was left inoperable due to devastating floods. The impact was significant, not just on the factory but on the entire community, with 170 workers stood down and a repair bill mounting to $141.8 million. It was a challenging period, reflecting the broader struggles within Australia's dairy industry. Why am I sharing this? Beyond a remarkable turnaround driven by commitment and community spirit, 130 dedicated employees are now returning to their roles. This story is about more than a reopening; it's a celebration of tenacity. It’s a statement of faith in Norco’s workforce and the future. It’s about setting a precedent for the future of Australia's dairy industry. It's about leaders who can navigate through uncertainty and emerge stronger, more resilient. In these times, the role of strong, commercially astute leaders is undeniably crucial. Leaders like Norco's CEO, Michael Hampson, who demonstrate bold decision-making, a readiness to take risks, and an unwavering commitment to their community, are the bedrock on which successful recoveries are built.
